WEVA 'Power of Video' Tour Impacts Wedding Professionals City-Wide
May 28, 2008

Sarasota, FL - With recent stops in Houston, Cleveland and Ft. Lauderdale, WEVA’s "The Power of Video" (POV) Tour has covered almost as many miles as the two Democratic candidates have this spring!

Starting in the Midwest for 2008, WEVA's POV was sweet music to the ears of wedding videographers and bridal consultants in the Rock N Roll city of Cleveland, OH on March 25th. The event was hosted by the Cleveland Chapter Coordinator for the Association of Bridal Consultants (ABC) Jill Babbush, owner of Auntie Jill's Weddings & Invitations.

The "Power of Video" program which features highlights from WEVA Creative Excellence Award winning wedding videos, is designed to show how the impact of highly-produced videos can help market and sell the big-picture concept of videotaping weddings and other important lifecycle events.

Marketing and More

Industry networking enhanced the Cleveland event as the ABC chapter joined forces with the Northern Ohio Videographers Association (NOVA) for the evening. WEVA’s "Power of Video" a wedding video multi-media presentation, created by the WEVA Public Relations Committee and presented on-tour by PR Committee chairperson and WEVA Wedding & Event Videography Hall of Fame inductee Kris Malandruccolo, also included a spotlight session by Kris on new media strategies for capturing more wedding referrals and bookings.

Jill notes, "The presentation on ‘Marketing Tips for Savvy Wedding Professionals’ focused on how we can all use the media to get free publicity, and showed us new ways to increase revenue by improving our Internet presence, blogging, and tips to make our website, business cards, and magazine ads stand out amongst the crowds."

Gaining a Competitive Edge

In the lush, tropical paradise of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, "The Power of Video" was hosted by ABC’s Ft. Lauderdale Chapter Coordinator Lori Patterson, owner of A Memorable Affair. The ABC chapter teamed up with the South Florida Professional Videographers Association (SFVA) on Sunday April 16, at Casa Reta a beautiful, historically-styled "new" plantation venue for weddings and events in Davie, FL.

With South Florida being one of the most sought after destinations for tropical themed weddings and social events, competition is fierce for all wedding professionals, making the information-packed POV all the more valuable for attendees. SFVA president Danny Sien agreed saying, WEVA’s "Power of Video" is "doing one of the most important things we could do for our industry - and that is to let wedding and event vendors know what video can do for them, and our own industry."

When the WEVA POV event in Houston, TX wrapped up on May 4th at the Omni Hotel, Sandy Buller, president of the Houston Professional Videographers Association (HPVA), and ABC's Texas State Coordinator Karen Brown, Master Bridal Consultant and owner of Karen For Your Memories, were both delighted by the turn out as well as the presentation. "I want to express, on behalf of the HPVA and myself, my personal appreciation for the wonderful event we had in Houston. It’s refreshing to realize that we have caring ambassadors from WEVA who are out there on the front lines educating the marketplace about the wedding and event video production industry," Buller said.

As reported in WEVA's Wedding & Event Videography Resource Guide, the WEVA PR Committee, which in addition to Malandruccolo, includes Al Ritondo, Personal Touch Video (NJ); Natalie Neal, Glass Slipper Productions (PA); and Mike Nelson, Remember When Video Productions (UT), has spent the better part of two years developing Phase I & Phase II outreach programs that either directly benefit the WEVA membership, or are meant to promote the benefits of professional video to the wedding industry at large.

The next stop on the groundbreaking POV Tour is a long way from Houston, Cleveland and Ft. Lauderdale, but it’s open to all wedding industry professionals who can attend the ABC events set for this summer in Japan. WEVA's "The Power of Video" will be presented in conjunction with ABC events planned in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan from July 10-July 20, 2008.

"The WEVA POV event set to debut in Japan this summer is an exciting industry breakthrough, an unparalleled opportunity for an ‘East Meets West’ sharing of new wedding trends, techniques and traditions," said WEVA International chairman Roy Chapman. "It’s in step with WEVA’s quest to expand horizons for our members and our industry worldwide, and follows upon WEVA’s recent international events in Europe, Australia, and Canada."
