NEWS MINUTE: Audio Technica's AE4100 & AT897
June 21, 2006
Las Vegas, NV - Can you really “hear the difference” between different microphones used for recording interviews, or general speech (such as wedding vows) in social event settings? How different is the sound quality between a shotgun mike and a hand-held cardioid?
You be the judge in this WEVA NEWS MINUTE from NAB 2006 spotlighting two popular Audio Technica microphones. WNM producer Bruce Himmelblau recorded Audio Technica’s Steve Savanyu talking about audio for video as Steve switched between an AE4100 wireless hand-held cardioid mike (fitted with an “ice cube” transmitter) and the AT897 short shotgun. WATCH NOW!
Audio-Technica’s AE4100 (pictured) features superior anti-shock engineering for minimum handling noise. The multi-stage grille protects against plosives and sibilance without compromising high-frequency clarity. The cardioid polar pattern reduces pickup of sounds from the sides and rear.
The AT897 short shotgun mounts on a DV camcorder without adding noticeable heft, and remains out of the frame even with compact digital cameras. Audio Technica says this unit offers outstanding long-distance audio pickup due to narrow acceptance angle of line + gradient design. It’s engineered to feature natural-sounding on-axis audio quality, and excellent off-axis rejection of sound arriving from the sides and rear of the mike.
