Toshiba Postpones HD DVD Release to April
March 24, 2006
Tokyo, JP - Reuters News Service reported that Toshiba will not be releasing HD DVD players this month as the company had previously stated.
In January, Toshiba America Consumer Products announced that the debut models, the HD-XA1 ($799) and HD-A1 ($499) HD DVD players would ship on March 28th to coincide with the release of HD DVD movie titles on that day. According to the Reuters report, the delay may be only until April 18th when the studios release the HD DVD tities.
Time Warner Warner Home Video recently moved the release date of its first HD DVD titles, including "Million Dollar Baby," and "The Phantom of the Opera," to April 18.
Samsung previously announced that they plan to ship players in the competing Blu-ray Disc format in May to coincide with movie studio releases in that format.
