Samsung States Spring for Release of Blu-ray Player
January 05, 2006
Las Vegas, NV - Samsung says the BD-P1000 is the "world's first Blu-ray player." The company says it is expected to ship in early Spring and will retail for approximately $1,000.
The new BD-P1000 Blu-ray disc (BD) player will let consumers take full advantage of high-definition displays, playing content at native 720p or 1080i video resolutions. The increased storage capacity of Blu-ray discs allows the Samsung BD player to offer an astounding 25 GB of content on a single-sided disc (50 GB per dual layer) -- nearly six times the capacity of traditional DVDs and enough space for two hours of high-definition movies or recorded content. The BD player also includes HDMI support, full backwards compatibility with every DVD format and built-in memory card reader.
At CES Samsung also introduced ten new DVD recorder models including 2nd generation Twin Tray DVD Recorder/High Speed duplicators, DVD/VCR combo recorders with upconversion capabilities, single-deck DVD recorders, and an HDD-DVD recorder.
