WELCOME: Georgia Professional Videographers Association (GPVA)!
May 20, 2009
Sarasota, FL - The first meeting of the Georgia Professional Videographers Association(GPVA) was held on Tuesday, May 12th at the Centre at the Arbor in suburban Atlanta before a capacity crowd. “We are extremely excited about supporting this organization and are pleased to have been a part of the inaugural meeting,” states John Zale, WEVA Director of Educational Development. He goes on to say, “The local associations we work with all over the world definitely help educate and improve the business skills of videographers and give them a place to network with others in the industry.”
In the afternoon hands-on work session, Dave Helmly from Adobe Systems, a Meeting Sponsor, demonstrated a few of the ways the new Adobe CS4 can help a videographer increase productivity as well as adding new creative tools to their arsenal. After this 2 hour workshop, the group was treated to an Italian Buffet while Bess Orenzow, from the GPVA welcomed all those wedding & event videographers from Georgia, neighboring states and as far away as ENGLAND!
WEVA’s John Zale, then introduced Dave Helmly from Adobe as he provided his top tips and tricks, then took editing challenges from the audience where he provided solutions right on the spot! Attendees took away valuable information they could use in their daily work.
Natalie Neal of Glass Slipper Productions in Philadelphia and Chairperson of WEVA’s Ambassador Committee explained how she combined multiple video services for one client and produced a “5 figure package”. Included in this HD Package was a “Save the Date” DVD and a Same Day Edit section, both of which were shown to the captive crowd who was taking notes and recording the information.
Bob Crites and Scott Sheehan from Grass Valley also a Meeting Sponsor, then demonstrated how the new Edius 5 is the perfect solution for those interested in tackling the challenge of Same Day Edits as well as everyday editing, including a Tapeless Workflow.
A special surprise included an appearance and motivational address from Andre Foster of England. Andre explained how after 20 years in the Hair Salon industry, he decided to take his creative juices and apply them to Wedding Videography. After a rough first couple of years, Andre incorporated a handful of the production and marketing techniques he learned at WEVA EXPO 2008 (both from the sessions and also the discussions he had later with those speaking) and is on pace for a very profitable 2009.
Also in attendance, pledging their support to the newly formed GPVA were two local video dealers, Tony Hale from the DV Shop and Kenny Crysler from Showcase Video. Bess Orenzow also announced they have 2 speakers committed for June and because of the inspiration from Natalie’s Same Day Edit, in July the plan is to stage a Same Day Edit in order for Georgia Videographers to experience the process.
