Illinois Videographers Association Holds First IVA Midwest Expo
May 23, 2007
Chicago, IL - The Illinois Videographers Association (IVA) hosted their inaugural IVA Midwest Expo last week in the Chicagoland area, attracting videographers throughout Illinois and the midwestern region, including Indiana, Iowa, and Missouri.
Supported by leading vendors, including The Tape Company, Safe Harbor Computers, and Midwest Digital Services, the Expo featured new product exhibits and a day-long series of educational sessions on key topics presented by nationally known, award-winning videographers.
“Our first IVA Midwest Expo was a rousing success!” said IVA President Keith Kelly. "Our five seminars were packed full of eager videographers willing to take time out of their busy schedules to come learn with us in Chicago. We had an amazing group of presenters, including instructors from our own association, who offered more than 8 hours of training throughout the day."
The seminar sessions featured Chris Chibucos of Furla Professional Video on "Concept Video Love Stories;” Josh Fozzard of Pickwhip Studios on "Adobe Affer Effects: Easy, Creative Templates;" Keith Kelly of Innovative Communications on "Secrets of Great One-Camera Receptions (with a Multi-Camera look);” Kris Malandruccolo of Elegant Videos by Kris on "The Power of Video & Getting More Business With Better Marketing;” and "Free Downloads to Maximize Creativity” by Brian Gunn and Lance Gray of PixelPops Design.
Continuing education for videographers, Kelly says, is a sharply-focused concern of the IVA, one of our industry’s most active associations and winner of the free Local Association Hospitality Suite at WEVA EXPO last year, which honored the local association with the largest number of members attending the 2006 convention and trade show. Developing and hosting the first IVA Midwest Expo this year was a natural progression for this pro-active group.
As Kelly relates in the current issue of Wedding & Event Videography Resource Guide, "We are a strong association with many talented and involved members, and we wanted to draw attention to the quality programs we offer through IVA." He noted, "Our goal was to offer continuing education seminars to those in the Midwest and to increase our membership. We also wanted to open the eyes of videographers who may have never attended professional development seminars of this sort, hopefully enticing them to continue their education, and strengthen our industry."
Kelly added, “just about everybody left with something extra, thanks to our generous sponsors who made it possible for us to award over $4,000 in door prizes to attendees! This was the first event of this type for many who attended and they’ve said they want more. We’ve already begun making plans for the IVA Midwest Expo in 2008!"
