WIRED Ranks ‘Video Unlimited’ as World-Changing Trend
June 28, 2006

San Francisco, CA - The July issue of Wired declares ‘Video Unlimited’ as Number 2 among six major trends the magazine says are reshaping the world. “Any time, any place, any format, any screen–-there’s always something on” states the subheadline of “Six Trends Driving the Global Economy.”

The article spotlights the surging demand for online video in everything from music videos and popular TV shows to all new and original content, noting as an example that Epic records started shifting its business model when fans began demanding accessibility to content beyond the screens of MTV and VH1. “They were clamoring for access to music videos on all kinds of screens– from laptops to smartphones to video iPods,” Wired relates.

The article also cites the trend towards “viral video” (email forwarding) that is now occurring when clips are posted online. “The demand for content has fueled efforts by Wired 40 companies like Yahoo and General Electric (the parent of NBC Universal) to come up with stuff tailored for all kinds of different screens,” says Wired.

Race to the Web Bringing New Business to WEVA Members

The scramble among major corporations to get video on the Web, a global trend already recognized by Wedding & Event Videographers Association International (WEVA), the largest trade association of videographers, has been the driving force behind WEVA’s efforts “to bring our membership into the picture worldwide,” said WEVA International Chairman Roy Chapman. “The WEVA membership is ideally suited to help corporations large and small get content onto the Web quickly and affordably. In fact, this is already underway through WEVA’s strategic initiative with
ImageSpan.

"Through Project StreamLocal created by the ImageSpan initiative, WEVA is now uniquely positioned to enable agencies to get thousands of videos shot nationwide, meta-tagged, and uploaded to sites immediately,” Chapman said. “It's exciting for our association to be on the cutting-edge of a world-changing trend that is being illuminated in the mainstream media by Wired and others, and one that has the ability to bring so many new weekday jobs to the WEVA membership."

The Global Power Launch of Project StreamLocal is set to be held at the WEVA 16th Annual Wedding & Event Video Expo this August where videographers will be able to opt-in for thousands of new weekday job assignments already in the StreamLocal queue. “New developments in IT/broadband technology created the opportunity for good quality video to be seen on the Web by millions much faster than industry observers anticipated,” said Chapman.

“New IT developments coupled with the emergence of portable video, like video iPods and PlayStation, and new mobile video, mean we will have a lot more to present and talk about at this year’s WEVA EXPO than ever before. For videographers, getting the new information will lead to getting a whole new stream of additional business, and that’s exciting!”
