NEC also is expected to release personal computers with HD DVD drives, but not until this fall, according to Reuters. The report added that NEC is considering adding Blu-ray Disc, making it one of the manufacturers offering both flavors of the high definition disc.
Both high-def disc formats use blue lasers, which have a shorter wavelengths than the red lasers used in current DVD equipment. This enables the discs to store more data at higher resolution, such as HDTV and HDV video.
