"WEVA continues to recognize those individuals who have taken our industry to the next level through innovation, teaching, and service," said WEVA Special Awards Committee Chairperson Ken Kurita, co-owner of Videon Productions (MN). "Moreover, the Special Awards are unique because they spotlight fellow professionals who have volunteered their services over a consistent period of time. The Community Service Award, for instance, recognizes those individuals who have donated their production skills to nonprofit agencies. The Awards also provide an opportunity to recognize professionals who may not have received industry accolades for their leadership, service, and contributions in the past."
It’s now easier than ever to enter nominations – Click Here. On the page, you will see the full list of WEVA Special Awards categories and a brief description of the criteria. At the right of each category description simply "CLICK TO NOMINATE" – it’s that easy. You will also find links to the past Special Awards recipients on the page as well. The WEVA Wedding & Event Videography Hall of Fame opened in August 2000 at the 10th Annual WEVA EXPO with the unveiling of the Hall's historical "Tools & Technology" exhibit. This special industry preservation exhibit displays professional recording equipment dating back to the very beginning of professional wedding and event videography, and includes industry memorabilia from professionals commemorating the history of our industry.
At WEVA EXPO 2001, WEVA announced the first Hall of Fame inductees, which included members whose contributions to professional wedding and event video nurtured the growth of our industry. The Hall of Fame recognition gave birth to the following Special Awards of Industry Recognition bestowed by the WEVA Special Awards Committee.
* Walter Bennett Service to Industry Award, named in memory of the pioneering producer and local association founder from Tulsa, OK, was introduced in 1999. This Special Award honors the WEVA International member who, through the donation of time, by teaching and writing and by service in a local association or national level, strives for exemplary professionalism that lights a pathway for other videographers to follow.
* Bob Lebar Vision Award, introduced in 2000 is named in honor of the groundbreaking video animator from Hartsdale, NY. This award recognizes the WEVA member who has made innovative contributions to the development of the professional wedding and event community by advancing unique ideas and invoking a keen sense of entrepreneurial spirit, together with a strong sense of professional pride, raising the bar to new heights.
* Pam Andelora Ambassador Award, was named after the Arizona videographer who brought energy, enthusiasm, and the ability to inspire others in their quest for excellence. This award recognizes WEVA members who have demonstrated their willingness to reach out and contribute to the WEVA community by volunteering their time and expertise.
* Community Service Award, was created after the 9/11 catastrophe when a number of New York metro area videographers donated their services to commemorate victims of the tragedy. The award recognizes WEVA members who have graciously donated their time and expertise to help non-profit organizations raise money and awareness of those among us who are themselves the victims of unfortunate circumstances.
* Wedding & Event Videography Hall of Fame induction is WEVA's highest honor. The Hall of Fame recognizes WEVA members who have contributed an extraordinary body of work to the Association to further advance professional development for fellow WEVA members. This award also takes into account a WEVA member's leadership in their local association, participation in WEVA EXPO presentations, WEVA online education, the Association's professional development conferences and events, and WEVA committee activities.
"On behalf of the WEVA Special Awards Committee I invite all of our members to nominate individuals they feel meet the criteria for the Special Awards. And it’s even okay to nominate yourself, as the Special Awards of Recognition is not a popularity contest, and not decided by the number of nominations received. Each year the WEVA SAC conducts background research, deliberates and bestows Awards based on individual merit and exceptional industry achievements," Kurita said. "Some of our past honorees have never won a WEVA Creative Excellence Award or received national recognition. Help us discover individuals who have made a difference. Please enter your nominations now online."
