Panasonic Shows Prototype Camcorder Using SD Cards
April 07, 2003
Las Vegas, NV - Panasonic has unveiled a prototype digital camcorder that records to SD cards, and includes no tape recording parts. No name was given to the prototype.
Barely four inches wide, the camcorder includes a 16:9 LCD screen in its 12 inch long footprint. Panasonic said the camcorder would feature three CCDs – it is unclear whether they are native 16:9. The camcorder will record 24 frames per second progressive video.
The prototype camcorder records to SD memory cards, which are currently available in sizes up to 1 GB, which would hold about 18 minutes of video. The company will eventually release larger capacity cards, it was stated.
No official price for the camera was announced, although it is believed to be targeted around the $3,500 price point. There is no release date for the unit scheduled at this time.
