Apple Intros DVD Studio Pro 2, Final Cut Pro 4, Shake 3
April 07, 2003
Las Vegas, NV - Apple has previewed its new release of DVD Studio Pro at a press conference at the NAB 2003 convention in Las Vegas. It's expected to ship in August for half the price of previous releases--$499. Apple has also announced new versions of Final Cut Pro and Shake.
Final Cut Pro 4 supports SD (standard definition), HD and 24P editing. It is priced at $999.
Video pros will appreciate Final Cut Pro 4’s rich editing tools — including support for asymmetric trimming — and new customization features such as fully customizable keyboards and workspace layouts. A sophisticated multi-stream real-time architecture supports an increased number of video streams and effects. Multi-track audio mixing, output and real-time audio effects enhance NLE-based audio editing. Final Cut Pro 4 includes two additional creative tools: LiveType, a broadcast-quality title generator, and Soundtrack, an intuitive tool for creating custom soundtracks. Final Cut Pro 4 gives digital artists the freedom to explore their creativity.
Uncompromising image quality, sample-accurate A/V synchronization and corrective finishing tools make Final Cut Pro 4 appropriate for SD and HD broadcast applications. Apple’s new SD and HD finishing formats let online editors work with 10-bit uncompressed video; a new 32-bit per channel floating-point image engine composites elements and renders effects with incredible clarity and precision. With support for DVCPRO50 built-in, Final Cut Pro 4 has the power to deliver professional, broadcast-quality images from the field or the edit bay.
DVD Studio Pro 2.0 will include fully customizable templates, a new menu editor, timeline-based track editing, new user interface and a new software-based MPEG-2 encoder. Its new user interface is designed to get users of other Apple products, such as iDVD, up and running quickly. It includes a new outline view, enhanced asset information and the timeline-based track editor. The new timeline track-editing functionality is based on the timeline in Final Cut Pro, providing a linear view of clips, audio and other assets, with support for eight camera angles, eight audio tracks and 32 subtitle tracks.
DVD Studio Pro 2's new menu editor allows users to create menus by dragging and dropping content. It includes support for context-sensitive drop palettes for linking to new tracks and allows users to build slideshows and automatically build chapter indexes in one step. "A built-in compositing engine in DVD Studio Pro 2 allows users to edit text directly in the menu editor and make changes to font styles and button graphics without leaving the application," according to Apple.
DVD Studio Pro 2 is expected to ship in August for $499. Apple has also lowered the price of DVD Studio Pro 1.5 to $499.
Shake 3 is a digital compositing and special effects tool, priced at $4,950 for Mac OS.
