New Solid-State Camcorder from Pretec
March 11, 2003
Fremont, CA - Pretec is introducing its DV-4200 solid-state camcorder, capturing 30 fps MPEG-4 video, AAC audio and 2.1-megapixel still images directly onto stamp-sized Secure Digital (SD) memory cards, eliminating the need for videotape.
Pretec's DV-4200 (4.4"x6"x1.9") includes a 1.8" color TFT LCD screen, A/V outputs to display video and still images on a standard TV, rechargeable Lithium-ion battery, and USB connection.
The NW901 uses MPEG-4 compression to produce data rates that permit solid-state capture. Solid-state camcorders utilize solid-state FLASH memory cards to store video, audio and still images. FLASH memory storage replaces tape-based mechanical systems of traditional camcorders, allowing them to be smaller, more convenient to use and cost-effective.
Using the Pretec 6GB CF card, described as the highest capacity flash memory card in the world, an MPEG4 digital camcorder can store up to 30 hours of movie with VHS TV quality at 30fps, the company describes.
