New DV PROLINE VTR Part of Panasonic NAB Showing
February 17, 2003

Secaucus, NY - Panasonic has announced a number of new products to be unveiled at NAB 2003, including an HD VTR, new 2X feeder VTR, a notebook-based editing system and an SDTV camcorder, among other products.

Panasonic’s AG-DV2500 DV PROLINE series is a studio or portable VTR for IEEE-1394 based nonlinear editing applications. The new model offers playback compatibility with ¼” tape based DV compression video formats, and can even operate in both NTSC and PAL television standards, the manufacturer describes.

Weighing 5.1 pounds, the AG-DV2500 can either be AC or DC powered, and records on mini-DV cassettes (as used by Panasonic’s 24-frame DV Cinema AG-DVX100) or full sized DV cassettes (as used by Panasonic’s AG-DVC200), without the need for an adaptor. In full size DV, the maximum recording time is 276 minutes (4-1/2 hours) on a single cassette, making this format an ideal choice for high quality digital news or documentary archiving. Recordings made in DVCAM format can also be played back on the AG-DV2500.

Excelling in the IEEE-1394 based NLE environment as a high-performance feeder,
the AG-DV2500 offers digital component video quality and lossless dubbing of native video and audio signals with both Apple Macintosh and Microsoft Windows-based editing applications.

A multi-event controller can also be used with the AG-DV2500 utilizing its RS-422A terminal, facilitating its use as a remotely controllable source deck. Additional features include: front-panel audio level indicators; search up to 9X normal speed; time/date generator; on-screen menu; variable speed playback normal speed; and audio dubbing.

The VTR is equipped with analog AV in/out, S-Video in/out, and a microphone terminal for narration. The AG-DV2500 offers a superb audio quality 16-bit digital sound system (supporting locked audio) that rivals the quality of CDs. Users can select between PCM audio of 48kHZ/16 bits (2 channels) and 32kHz/12 bits (4 channels) depending on their audio requirements.

The AG-DV2500’s dimensions are 6-7/8” W x 2-11/16” H x 10-1/4” D and can be mounted horizontally or vertically. A vertical stand is included. The AG-DV2500 will be available in Second Quarter 2003 at a suggested list price of $1,995.
