Warner Chapell and Philly International Records Sign On with ZOOM
July 29, 2007

Sarasota, FL - Despite tumultuous shake-ups in the music industry this past year, ZOOM, the groundbreaking music license platform for wedding videographers and digital imagers, has made steady progress and last week announced the clearance of major catalogs into the program.

“On the publishing side, in addition to EMI, the world's largest music publishing company, Warner Chappell, the world’s second-largest publisher, has now officially signed on with ZOOM and has already begun clearing songs for ZOOM licensing. EMI and Warner Chappell have nearly a 50% market share in the publishing industry and represent many of the top songs videographers want to use," said Jeff Straw, Licensing Manager for INgrooves, the administrator of the new music licensing program for professional videographers and digital imagers in the USA and Canada.

Movie Soundtracks & 'Sound of Philly' Cleared

Straw also said that two large catalogs of master recordings have just signed on with ZOOM as well - including the Philadelphia International label, and a catalog featuring popular movie soundtracks (including several James Bond films, Rocky, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Magnificent Seven, and many others).

"We are happy to welcome an entire catalog of movie soundtracks, and the Philly International label to the ZOOM License platform," Straw said. "Philly International represents hundreds of songs by the legendary writing duo Gamble & Huff and includes hits like "If You Don't Know Me by Now" by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, "Love Train" by the O'Jays, the Grammy-winning "Me and Mrs. Jones" by Billy Paul, songs by Teddy Pendergrass, and more." These hit songs, and the movie soundtracks, are completely cleared and already in the process of being entered into the ZOOM database for immediate licensing.

"Now as the dust starts to settle on the new music paradigm that we have been witnessing over the past year, we are seeing more music heading to ZOOM for licensing," Straw noted. "ZOOM has gained momentum and become recognized as the industry’s easiest, most efficient and most cost-effective way to search, license and manage music for wedding and event videos and photo montages. Everyone we speak to about licensing the music videographers have requested is now excited about ZOOM and preparing music for clearance."

The ZOOM platform allows all videographers and digital imagers in the USA and Canada to legally register their synchronization uses for music that has been cleared into the program by music labels and publishers at a cost that ranges from about $3.50 - $5.50 per song (WEVA members and industry affiliate organizations receive a discount on licensing fees. See the ZOOM FAQ).

It's quick and easy to create a ZOOM account and free of charge. Go to www.ZOOMLicense.com and click "Get Started."

"As a ZOOM registrant you are able to purchase a license 'bundle.' You confirm a song you want is available and register that particular use simply by checking a box. The ZOOM platform aggregates all the stored uses and makes payment to the publishers and labels," said Straw.

Streamlined Efficiency

Until the introduction of ZOOM, unveiled last year at the WEVA 16th Annual Wedding & Event Video Expo, there was no efficient way for videographers and digital imagers to legally license popular music used in their special event productions and montages, leaving them and/or their clients exposed to potential copyright infringement.

"For years professional videographers have been searching for a way to formulate a true licensing program that can grow and develop as new artists and songs continuously emerge," said WEVA International Chairman Roy Chapman.

"By working together with INgrooves and EMI Music Publishing, the world's largest music publisher, WEVA International has been able to utilize the advantages of new IT efficiencies to make clearance a streamlined process for both the music industry and professional videography. ZOOM is designed to be simple and affordable for all videographers and digital imagers, and will finally offer an automated system for licensing selected music, and also provide peace of mind."
