New ZOOM Licensing Program for Clearing Copyrighted Music in USA & Canada To Announce First Song Clearances This Month
October 03, 2006
Sarasota, FL - "The first wave of copyrighted songs now cleared for use in wedding and event videos, photo montages, and digital imaging projects will be uploaded to ZOOM™ before the end of October,” said Robb McDaniels CEO of INgrooves, the administrator of the new music licensing program for professional videographers and digital imagers in the USA and Canada.
Requesting Songs for Clearance
Following the initial clearance of hundreds of popular songs, additional songs will be cleared based on requests from ZOOM registrants.
"The time to request songs you want cleared for use in your wedding and event videos is now because songs are being cleared on a 'first-come' priority basis. There is no cost now to create an account at www.zoomlicense.com and request as many songs as you would like," McDaniels said.
ZOOM, the music licensing breakthrough wedding and event videographers have been waiting for, allows you to legally register your synchronization uses for music that has been cleared into the program by music labels and publishers at a cost that is less than a latte per use (WEVA members receive a discount).
Until the introduction of ZOOM, unveiled in August at the WEVA 16th Annual Wedding & Event Video Expo, there was no efficient way for videographers and digital imagers to legally license popular music used in their special event productions and montages, leaving them and/or their clients exposed to potential copyright infringement.
Streamlined Efficiency
"For years professional videographers have been searching for a way to formulate a true licensing program that can grow and develop as new artists and songs continuously emerge," said WEVA International Chairman Roy Chapman.
"By working together with INgrooves and EMI Music Publishing, the world's largest music publisher, WEVA International has been able to utilize the advantages of new IT efficiencies to make clearance a streamlined process for both the music industry and professional videography. ZOOM is designed to be easy and affordable for all videographers and digital imagers, and will finally offer an automated system for licensing selected music, and also provide peace of mind."
INgrooves and EMI Music Publishing are clearing songs along with various other music publishers and record labels. EMI represents over 1.5 million songs in all genres, spanning the last 100 years of popular music. EMI also controls many original works, both theme songs and scores, from hundreds of motion pictures and television shows.
Some of their key songwriters are John Lennon, Carole King, James Taylor, Sting, Phil Collins, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, Usher & Norah Jones.
"Creating a ZOOM account not only allows you to request songs for priority clearance, it also allows you to receive news about ZOOM and industry updates," McDaniels said.
"ZOOM registrants will be able to purchase a license 'bundle.' You will confirm a song you want is available and register that particular use simply by checking a box. The ZOOM platform aggregates all the stored uses and makes payment to the publishers and labels. Music is being cleared on a continuous basis."
