16x9 Inc. Introduces Chrosziel 5.65x5.65 HD Mattebox
May 02, 2006
Valencia, CA - 16x9 Inc. introduced the Chrosziel 5.65x5.65 HD Mattebox. Designed for today’s high definition cameras, this versatile new system is made especially to work with the new 5.65x5.65 filter size. Plus, the 5.65x5.65 HD changes from a full-blown swing-away mattebox to a convenient clamp-on system. No pricing was announced.
Chrosziel’s 5.65x5.65 Mattebox's 16:9/4:3 wide angle housing is compatible with zoom lenses as wide as 4.5mm or primes as wide as 5mm, without vignetting.
The unit comes with a filterstage for two independently rotating 5.65x5.65 filters, making it large enough for ultra-wide lenses, yet compact enough for handheld work. In addition, the design provides ample room for the manipulation of filters – such as vertical grads – to any desired position.
Chrosziel’s modular design accepts a series of interchangeable filterstages. This allows the mattebox to accommodate numerous filter sizes, including 4x5.65 and 5x5 filters, mounted vertically or horizontally. The unit’s quick-lock device secures the initial filterstage and enables easy addition or exchange of the different filterstages when desired. Operators have a maximum option of three independently rotating filterholders.
For use as a full-blown mattebox, a handy swing-away bracket attaches to the system’s 15mm lightweight support rods. An optional adapter can be added for mounting to 15 or 19mm bridgeplate rods. Switching to a clamp-on system is quick and easy, thanks to the Chrosziel modification kit. The bracket dismounts simply for replacement with a 130mm clamp adapter. Other advantages include mounting blocks, a pivot mechanism to interface optional sidewings, and a foldable french flag
The 5.65x5.65 HD Mattebox integrates beautifully with the Chrosziel Studio Rig Follow Focus. The highly calibrated follow focus system is accessible on either side of the camera. Clear markings on the focus scale offer control for the focus points. Focus marks on the video lens have a rotating angle of approximately 110° - 144° on the lens. The system spreads this angle to approximately 2 - 2.5 times on the handwheel. For Chrosziel’s famous dampened fluid feel, the handwheel employs the company’s patented integrated fluid mechanism.
The Chrosziel 5.65x5.65 HD Mattebox and Studio Rig Follow Focus are available exclusively in the U.S. from 16x9 Inc.
