Rorke Data Launches Low-Cost Desktop RAID for HD Post
March 14, 2006
Eden Prarie, MN - Video storage specialist Rorke Data is set to launch what they call "a revolutionary affordable workstation" RAID system aimed at the broadcast, video and digital imaging markets. The Rorke Data Qubex series of high-speed desktop RAID for video features a compact 6-drive enclosure, high-performance 4GBit Fibre Channel or Ultra320 SCSI host connections; and delivers up to 3 TB of SATA-II RAID storage at a list price under $2.50 USD per GB.
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with Rorke Data,” said Alan Johnson, VP Business Development and Emerging Technology for Fibrenetix. “Rorke Data’s storage solutions have a strong reputation in the digital content market, and their experience in providing cost-effective, scalable, HD-quality video storage is virtually unsurpassed. By partnering our expertise, we feel confident that our Qubex series, with its unrivalled performance and features, is uniquely designed to meet the requirements of high definition broadcasting and post production clients."
Offering dual 4GBit Fibre channel host connection and SATA-II drives for 300MB/s data transfer - sufficient to edit High Definition uncompressed video streams, the compact, stylish Rorke Data Qubex measures 12 inches (30cm) wide and operates with low noise to deliver outstanding storage capacity of up to 3 terabytes. The 6-bay unit features hot swap hard disks and guarantees no loss of data in the event of a disk drive failure.
“Partnership with leading, forward-thinking companies such as Fibrenetix, enables us to not only meet our customer’s requirements today, but providing them with a logical growth path for tomorrow,” said Joe Rorke VP of Marketing and Business Development for Rorke Data. “The Rorke Data Qubex is easy to implement and pairs high performance with high capacity in a compact desktop storage unit that at the affordable cost per gigabyte, makes this the ideal storage solution in the high definition video post and broadcast world.”
The new unit can be configured using the onboard Ethernet connection, allowing remote configuration and monitoring via the Internet. To solve the problem of noise irritation in the A/V market the Rorke Data Qubex has redundant external power supplies, so there is no longer an internal power source generating heat and causing noise, making it the perfect solution for any desktop in ambient-noise sensitive environments.
Rorke Data resellers will sell the product through out North America, and be authorized to provide a range service and support options as well.
