Alienware Intros AMD Dual-Core Workstation Line
March 08, 2006

Miami, FL - Alienware -- manufacturer of high-performance desktop, notebook, media center, server and professional systems -- is now offering the new Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor Model 185 on the MJ-12 7500a desktop workstation (from $2546), as well as the new Dual-Core AMD Opteron Model 285 processor on the MJ-12 7550a desktop workstation (from $2721) in single- or dual-processor configurations.

Equipped with Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors Models 285 and 185, MJ-12 workstations provide advanced dual-core processing and maximum performance per watt to government, business and creative professionals looking for highly powerful workstation solutions. Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors were developed to enhance system performance and efficiency by integrating two processing cores on a single die.

MJ-12 workstations with Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors utilize Direct Connect Architecture, which directly connects the processors, memory controller, and I/O to the central processing unit, helping to reduce the performance bottlenecks common to other system architectures. As the highest-performing AMD Opteron processor available, Model 285 operates at 2.6GHz and supports AMD PowerNow! technology to optimize power consumption.

“Powered by the highest-performing AMD Opteron processors, Alienware's MJ-12 workstations have helped drive the success of many of today's top creative professionals,” said Frank Azor, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Alienware Worldwide Product Group. “With the introduction of the Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors Models 285 and 185, that pattern is sure to continue by giving customers the best performance per watt and cutting-edge innovations like Direct Connect Architecture.”

“Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors deliver native dual-core processing which means you get the highest dual-core performance available for a x86-based workstation, while still operating within a low 95-watt maximum thermal infrastructure,” said Pat Patla, director, Server/Workstation Marketing, AMD (NYSE: AMD). “AMD64 technology enables Alienware's MJ-12 workstations to provide leading-edge performance and efficiency for high-demand needs like digital content creation.”
