Ring Light for DV/HDV Cams Provides 'Beauty Light'
February 05, 2006
Toronto, Ont. - Gekko's new lenslite, sold by VFGadgets.com, is a "new generation" lighting tool for videographers shooting with DV/HDV camcorders and the smaller generation of film and video cameras.
It's designed to provide a lightweight and balanced, controllable beauty light source or fill, combined with an integral filter tray housing. The on-board dimmer puts the videographer in control, as ambient lighting conditions change.
The lenslite 6000K white light source, is a versatile, lightweight and portable LED ring light system, developed in the UK by Gekko Technology the makers of kisslite, a larger-size version that launched in 2004. It's designed to provide the warm feel typically associated with incandescent and halogen lamps.
The lenslite ring light unit clamps onto lightweight 15mm bars, mounted to a camera base unit, designed and balanced for the Sony Z1 and other smaller HDV cameras. The standard clamp ring is 110mm and step down rings are available for most fixed barrel internal focus lenses from 105mm down to 77mm.
lenslite is powered by a small, lightweight, dedicated power supply that accepts power from any 12 volt – 24 volt video battery. The power supply unit provides flicker-free power and allows individual switching of four-quarter-sub-sets: top, bottom, left and right, and dimming from 100% to 5% without altering color temperature. The power supply features instant-start, at preset dim level, at full color temperature.
Also available is a DC power outlet which can be used to power the camera, allowing one battery or main power source to run both light and camera simultaneously.
The integral filter tray housing holds filter trays for both 4” and 4” x 5.65” filters with one rotating and one fixed stage2. A top chop French flag is also available.
The unique kisslite wireless dimmer unit, which features remote dimming, on/off and sector controls at up to 200m, can also be used to control one or more lenslites.
A unique combination of fresnel lenses, produces an elliptical focused beam of light, maximizing the beam into 16x9 spread of light, while the custom diffusion filter provides the option to further soften the shadow free output. Lenslight starts at $4,230 for the basic package.
