Leitch Announced Two New HD Products
November 17, 2005
Cincinnati, OH - Version 9.1 of Leitch’s VelocityHD Non-linear Editing
The company is now shipping VelocityHD Version 9.1 with HDV, VariCam and more as a free download for all registered VelocityHD users.
Leitch says this new release enhances their HD/SD NLE solution with support for the HDV high-definition format, variable frame rate processing for content from Panasonic’s VariCam, broadened standard-definition format support and more.
VelocityHD 9.1 supports direct IEEE-1394 ingest of both 1080i and 720p material from HDV devices. The company says that HDV content can be mixed seamlessly with other HD formats on the timeline. New processing for variable frame rate content from the AJ-HDC27 VariCam HD Cinema camcorder allows the removal of the material’s non-active frames while recording the HD-SDI input stream, enabling support for 24fps VariCam content plus Varicam's
"overcranking" and "undercranking" for in-camera, off-speed effects.
VelocityHD editing enhancements include increasing the number of real-time, full-quality camera angles supported in HD multi-camera editing from two to four.
VelocityHD 9.1’s broadened, standard-definition format flexibility includes direct timeline support for DV25 material from many tapeless recording devices and DVCPRO25 and DVCPRO50 content from Panasonic’s P2 media-less memory-based products. VelocityHD 9.1 also supports project and media files from Leitch’s standard-definition Velocity and VelocityQ editing systems.
“Version 9.1 bolsters the high-performance, ‘true real-time’ productivity benefits of VelocityHD with broadened format flexibility and support for the unique capabilities of popular acquisition choices such as VariCam and P2,” said Randy Fowlie, Leitch vice president and general manager for Digital Media. “And with new HDV support, VelocityHD is the perfect solution for customers needing to combine HDV content with material from higher-bandwidth HD formats without sacrificing performance.”
The VelocityHD non-linear editing system combines the Altitude hardware platform with the Velocity software interface, designed to deliver high-performance, real-time post-production editing flexibility. Leitch says that VelocityHD features full-quality, real-time HD playback of multiple video and dynamic graphics streams with true dual-stream, real-time HD transitions and effects. VelocityHD supports 1080i, 1080PsF and 720p frame formats at all common frame rates, with mixable compressed and uncompressed video. All VelocityHD systems also offer outstanding multi-stream, standard-definition editing performance.
VelocityHD version 9.1 is now available as a free download from the Leitch Web site, for all registered VelocityHD users.

Leitch’s Inscriber TitleMotion Pro HD Launches at Inter BEE 2005
Leitch's parent, Harris Corporation announced the launch and availability of its Inscriber TitleMotion Pro HD graphics plug-in at Inter BEE (The International Broadcast Equipment Exhibition) 2005, held November 16-18 at the Makuhari Messe International Convention Complex in Tokyo. Designed for title and graphics creation for high-definition post projects and offering extensive 3D text and graphics effects, Inscriber TitleMotion Pro HD was developed to enhance\ design capability and improve efficiency by providing offline creation capability that easily exports into editing studio applications.
“TitleMotion Pro HD is amazing!" said Kuninaka Kimura, promotion manager, Digital Processing Systems Japan K.K. “I have had a lot of experience working with the Leitch Velocity non-linear editing systems. I was really impressed with how easy it is to create great-looking 3D animated text using the new TitleMotion Pro HD. It is a lot easier to create a 3D look with TitleMotion Pro HD than with more complex animation programs.”
TitleMotion Pro HD is a plug-in for Inscriber TitleMotion that provides added functionality including 3D text, effects and multi-layered compositing. TitleMotion Pro HD is designed to make any non-linear project more dynamic, allowing for animated textures and animated kerning over time, as well as the ability to apply 3D effects to text and graphic objects over time.
“As more and more editors move to HD production, they continue to face the pressures of creating innovative designs in an efficient manner,” said Randy Fowlie, vice president and general manager of Digital Media for Leitch. “The introduction of TitleMotion Pro HD™ means that editors gain a comprehensive new set of HD graphics creation tools to make their work get noticed. Now, a graphics department can operate independently using a standalone version. This saves valuable time in an edit suite, since the titles and graphics produced are network-accessible and easily inserted.”
