NewTek's Tim Jenison Inducted Into San Antonio Science and Technology Hall of Fame
November 06, 2005

San Antonio, TX - NewTek founder Tim Jenison, widely acknowledged as "the father of desktop video," has been inducted into the San Antonio Technology and Science Hall of Fame, a project of the San Antonio Technology Accelerator Initiative (SATAI) Network.

One of six leading innovators and inventors inducted by SATAI on November 2, Jenison was recognized for his role in developing the Video Toaster®, which revolutionized video post-production and slashed costs by ushering in a new world of "desktop video."

Released in 1990, the Amiga Video Toaster replaced over $100,000 worth of video hardware for under $5,000 and spawned entire new career fields for people who could never before have dreamed of having their own creative production business, including wedding and special event videographers, and freelance video producers.

In addition to seeding new video production careers, the Video Toaster empowered videographers and studios to do more with existing budgets, due to the inclusion of LightWave 3D®.

Since the launch of the Toaster, LightWave 3D® has been used in almost 200 feature films and countless television productions such as Babylon 5, Seaquest DSV, and Unsolved Mysteries. For the last decade, most of the television series that have won Emmy® Awards for visual effects were produced using LightWave.

Jenison’s impact on the television world has been previously recognized by the National Television and Sciences Academy with an Emmy Award for his achievements in 1993. In 2003, NewTek was again presented with an Emmy for LightWave 3D's seminal role in the revolution of visual effects over the preceding decade.

With headquarters in San Antonio, TX NewTek is a leading provider of full-featured video editing, live production, presentation and visual effects tools, including VT[4]™, LightWave 3D®, and the new TriCaster™ which was honored with a 2005 Technical Emmy nomination.

Recent projects using NewTek production tools include Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight, ManiaTV, Battlestar Galactica, Children of Dune and The Final Cut.
