Magnum Semiconductor's SuperMulti DVD Platforms
October 19, 2005
Fremont, CA - Magnum Semiconductor announced that it has developed software extensions for its leading DVD recorder platforms which enable videographers to use all of the popular types of recordable DVD media, including DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, and DVD-RAM.
"Magnum Semiconductor believes that a major obstacle for consumer adoption of DVD recorder is the complexity in understanding and making the right format choice," said Jack Guedj, CEO for Magnum Semiconductor. "Our new platforms can now be upgraded to support all DVD recorder formats (SuperMulti), thereby removing the compatibility and format selection barrier. The consumer using Magnum Semiconductor's SuperMulti platform is now free to buy any media of his or her choice depending on price/performance rather than format."
"PCs have been moving in the direction of support for all three major DVD recording formats. We believe that Magnum's direction will assist the consumer in a worry-free adoption of consumer DVD recording products," states Michelle Abraham of In-Stat.
Based upon industry research, Magnum Semiconductor estimates that 45% of the PC market will support SuperMulti by end of 2005, as PCs migrate from +RW to SuperMulti. The company adds that in the audio/video market, SuperMulti's share in DVD recorders should top 20% in this same period.
Magnum Semiconductor is providing this technology to its OEMs who can incorporate it as a software upgrade in their current DVD recorder products. Magnum Semiconductor is a provider of chips, software, reference platforms and engineering support for recording, viewing, and managing high-quality audio/video content.
