Amsterdam, Netherlands -
Panasonic HVX200 Support
Canopus will demonstrate its EDIUS Pro 3 nonlinear editing solution working with Panasonic's new AG-HVX200, HD P2 hand-held camcorder.
"The P2 format is making a significant impact in the broadcast world, especially for electronic news gathering and indie film production. The new AG-HVX200 camcorder is sure to further Panasonic's standing in the market," said Hiro Yamada, founder and chairman of the board of Canopus. "Add EDIUS Pro 3's realtime mixed HD/SD format editing, full frame rate resolution output, scalable design and a fast, flexible interface, and broadcast professionals have the perfect companion for Panasonic's outstanding new camcorder."
EDIUS Pro 3's P2 support, developed in collaboration with Panasonic, provides native, realtime nonlinear editing support for Panasonic's DVCPRO P2 series of products, including the new AG-HVX200 DVCPRO HD P2 hand-held camcorder. Using MXF (Material eXchange Format), EDIUS Pro 3 supports direct access of footage from the P2 card, eliminating the time-consuming task of capturing footage.
This immediate access to footage speeds up workflow and lets video professionals go directly from shooting to editing. The edited content can be exported back to the P2 card, together with metadata information.
"Support for Panasonic's new AG-HVX200 by Canopus is welcomed by both broadcasters and production professionals," said John Baisley, President of Panasonic Broadcast. "EDIUS Pro 3's implementation of P2 support in HD and SD, added to the current support of DVCPRO HD and DVCPRO 50 via IEEE1394, makes a great editing solution for Panasonic's family of DVCPRO products."
EDIUS Pro 3 nonlinear editing software provides native editing and realtime processing of uncompressed SD, HD, HDV, DV, MPEG-2, and MPEG-1 formats. Designed to have a seamless realtime workflow, EDIUS Pro 3 lets professionals mix and share video content in multiple formats and work with unlimited video, audio and effects layers, while providing realtime high-quality, on-screen display. Canopus says that EDIUS Pro 3 delivers increased quality and realtime performance through the company's acclaimed variable-bitrate Canopus HQ codec. EDIUS Pro 3 includes such features as realtime HQ batch capture from 1080i and 720p HDV cameras and decks, advanced audio tools and color correction controls, designed to help editors create the highest quality productions. EDIUS Pro 3 is also included with Canopus's line of EDIUS hardware and software editing solutions, including EDIUS NX for HDV, EDIUS SP for HDV, EDIUS SD and EDIUS HD.
JVC GY-HD100U and BR-HD50U Support
Canopus announced that its EDIUS Pro 3 realtime video editing solution will support JVC’s new GY-HD100U full resolution ProHD progressive camera and BR-HD50U videocassette recorder.
EDIUS Pro 3 will provide realtime capture and processing for JVC’s 720p format via the IEEE1394 interface. EDIUS Pro 3 also provides realtime 720p component output with the company’s EDIUS NX for HDV, EDIUS SP for HDV, EDIUS SD and EDIUS HD nonlinear editing systems.
“JVC’s new ProHD camcorder and videocassette recorder are attractive solutions for broadcasters and indie film producers who are making the transition from SD to HD,” said Hiro Yamada, founder and chairman of the board of Canopus. “Add EDIUS Pro 3’s realtime mixed SD/HD format editing, full frame rate resolution output, scalable design and a fast, flexible interface, and professionals have the perfect companion for JVC’s outstanding ProHD product line.”

EDIUS Pro 3 is also included with Canopus’s line of EDIUS hardware and software editing solutions, including the new HDV offering, EDIUS NX for HDV.
EDIUS Pro 3 is available from Canopus and its authorized resellers and system integrators for a suggested retail price of $699. The new support for 720p YUV component out (24/25/30p framerates) will be available fourth quarter 2005.
Canopus Speed Encoder for HDV
Canopus announced that they are speeding up HDV output for EDIUS Pro 3 users with the announcement of EDIUS Speed Encoder for HDV ($149). Taking advantage of the new powerful dual-core CPU systems, EDIUS Speed Encoder was developed to accelerate HDV (MPEG transport stream) file encoding direct from the EDIUS Pro 3 timeline, producing HDV footage up to twice as fast as standard encoders.
“Normally when encoding to HDV format, only one CPU is used during the process, even when there are multiple CPUs available,” said Hiro Yamada, founder and chairman of the board at Canopus. “Optimized for the very latest dual-core CPU systems, the EDIUS Speed Encoder for HDV sets new standards for HDV file encoding.”
The EDIUS Speed Encoder for HDV will be available by the end of the month from Canopus and its authorized resellers and system integrators.
New HD Codec Technology That Delivers 1920 x 1080i Resolution
This week at IBC Canopus will preview the Canopus HQ+ codec, the third software codec option in the company’s codec collection for EDIUS Pro 3. The Canopus HQ+ codec is scalable up to 1920 x 1080i resolution and is specifically aimed at quality-critical applications, such as compositing and 3D animation.
According to Canopus, the HQ+ codec uses 4:2:2 color sampling to attain 1920 luma samples and 960 chroma samples per line for a full 1920 x 1080 interlaced frame that provides quality comparable to uncompressed HD, but at about one-fifth the data size. The company added that HQ+ codec also maintains picture sharpness by not scaling the image, making it perfect for detailed oriented, high-contrast work such as compositing.
“The unique way the Canopus HQ+ codec processes HD video provides users with picture quality that compares to uncompressed HD, yet requires considerably less bandwidth,” said Hiro Yamada, founder and chairman of the board of Canopus. “This savings in disk space makes HD production more efficient and stable.”
The Canopus HQ+ software codec will be available in EDIUS Pro 3 fourth quarter 2005.
