Panasonic Shows Their Hi Def Camcorder at EXPO
August 10, 2005
Las Vegas, NV - In their booth at the WEVA 15th Annual Wedding & Event Video Expo Trade Show, Panasonic announced that their AG-HVX200 HD camcorder, using the same codec as their big DVCPRO-100 HD cameras, delivers better pictures than HDV camcorders.
Recording on two solid-state P2 cards, the camcorder is designed to record 16 minutes at 1080i and up to 40 minutes at 720p. The camcorder, which also records in SD on MiniDV tape, comes in a form factor similar to DVX100A and is scheduled for release in December.
On the P2 memory card, the AG-HVX200 records in 1080/60i, 30p and 24p; in 720/60p, 30p and 24p; and in DVCPRO50, DVCPRO or DV. By eliminating all moving parts from the camera recording path when shooting on a P2 card, Panasonic has designed the HVX200 to be resistant to environmental hazards, such as shock, vibration, and humidity.
With the AG-HVX200, HD and SD video can be recorded on the P2 card as IT-friendly MXF files that can be downloaded to a nonlinear editing system or server, or edited virtually instantly from the P2 card by connecting an IEEE 1394 or USB2.0 interface.
The P2 cards mount like a regular hard drive from a NLE system's point of view, which eliminates the time-taking task of digitizing footage.
At WEVA EXPO 2005, Panasonic released a new AMQ tape formula and also announced special rebate offers on DVX100A, DVC30, and DVC60 camcorders.
