WEVA News Minute: New Passion for Power in Fashion
July 29, 2005
Sarasota, FL - With WEVA celebrating the 15th year of Wedding & Event Video Expo next month, longtime attendees will recall the days when wedding videographers used to tote heavy car batteries on a cart system to stay powered-up for an all-evening reception shoot.
Today, emerging technologies in portable solar power could soon have videographers arriving to jobs literally dressed in power -- wearing a new type of lightweight "power cape," complete with hood light. Seeing it demonstrated last month at NextFest, WEVA NEWS MINUTE producer Bruce Himmelblau's first thought was, "does it come in black?" Click Here!
Working with photo-voltaic materials and fabrics, students at the University of Michigan have found a way to harvest energy using high-brightness semi-conductors (HBLEDs) and weave it all into lightweight clothing.
Their new designs in portable "power-wear" provide digital light and solar energy that is easily renewable. Just remember to hang up your jacket outside.
