Wynn Las Vegas Shooting/Editing Weddings in HD
July 27, 2005
Las Vegas, NV - A low-cost, high-definition camcorder for consumers hit the market this month... But will Uncle Charlie decide to leave it at home if he’s invited to a wedding at the new Wynn Las Vegas hotel?
Located in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip, the Wynn luxury hotel has opened two wedding salons fully-equipped with Panasonic 1080i HD cameras and Apple Final Cut Pro HD editing systems for capturing wedding ceremonies and events. Robert Sheridan, video production specialist for Wynn Las Vegas, says the salons, which opened in late April, expect to be hosting upwards of 60 weddings a month by September.
Videographers wondering when the time will be right to prepare for transitioning to high-definition production for weddings and events, can take note that Wynn Las Vegas one of the most high-profile hotels in the country is already shooting, editing, and displaying high-definition productions at the hotel’s HD-equipped wedding salons.
“Our customers demand the best and we felt we could provide that with a high-definition system,” said Sheridan. The two salons, where couples receive two hours of time for their wedding, seat 100 people and 60 people, respectively. The salons are identically equipped with three Panasonic AK-HC910 1080i box-type multi-purpose cameras mounted on AW-PH300A pan/tilt units, and controlled by AW-RP305 camera controllers.
In each salon, two AK-HC910s are located up front to obtain close-ups of the ceremony, while a third AK-HC910 is mounted high in back to capture wide-angle views of the ceremony and the participants. The HD video is recorded on a Panasonic AJ-HD1200A DVCPRO HD VTR and edited using Apple Final Cut Pro HD software. Titles, animations plus stock footage of the resort are added to the ceremony footage during editing.
The completed wedding video in 16:9 letterbox is burned to a MPEG SD DVD using DVD Studio Pro software. It’s available for viewing by the bride and groom the following day.
Sheridan said the Wynn Hotel is pleased with the HD image quality of the Panasonic cameras, and that the new HD equipment has future-proofed the salons for being able to provide married couples with HD DVDs of their wedding with the advent of high-definition DVD technology. The hotel is currently storing the HD wedding videos on a 5.8 Terrabyte Array.
Weighing less than 4 pounds (without lens), the AK-HC910 features three, high-performance 2/3” 2.2 million pixel 16:9 CCDs, 12-bit analog-to-digital conversion circuits with 38-bit internal signal processing that dramatically improves dark and highlight image quality. It also offers a high sensitivity of F10 at 2000 lux and a low smear of less than –135dB.
The AJ-HD1200A DVCPRO HD AC/DC-powered multi-purpose VTR is the first recorder to offer an IEEE 1394 interface operating at 100Mbps data rate with DV High Definition video streams. The versatile VTR works seamlessly with Apple Final Cut Pro and Avid Xpress Pro HD nonlinear editing software, and offers powerful features including playback of all DVCPRO and DV formats.
