WEVA News Minute: New 'Walk-Through' Video Screen
July 27, 2005
Sarasota, FL - For projection at your next event, you might decide to skip the screen and just bring the fog! Shown at NextFest in Chicago last month, new FogScreen technology allows you to project high-quality images in the air, on ultra-fine fog, which you can literally walk through due to its turbulence resistant airflow.
The fog is made within the FogScreen device using ordinary water and ultrasonic waves. If you hold your hands in the fog flow, the fog feels dry and cool, and your hands don’t get wet. Once the screen of fog is fully-formed, images can be projected onto it.
The screen can be translucent or fully opaque. Using two projectors, for example, you can project different images on both sides of the screen. Take a look -- From the NextFest show floor, WEVA NEWS MINUTE video producer, Bruce Himmelblau, talked with a FogScreen representative and shot video of their new walk-through projection screen. The company recommends using a projector with a rating of at least 3000 ANSI Lumen. While images can be projected onto the fog in normal daylight the company says dark conditions work best.
With FogScreen’s new interactive add-on, the company says you can now use the air as your computer user-interface, meaning you can operate computers by touching only the air with your bare hand, and even write and draw in the air.
FogScreen Inc (www.fogscreen.com) is a visual technology company offering walk-through projection screens based on the FogScreen technology (US Pat. 6,819,487 B2). The privately-held company has its headquarters in the Seinäjoki Technology Center, Finland.
