Trace Affex Unveils 4800 DPI Disc Printer
June 27, 2005

San Jose, CA - Trace Affex introduced the DiscJet 4800 CD/DVD printer designed to offer 4800 x 1200 dpi—resolution using HP’s standard, off-the-shelf ink cartridges which can result in substantial cost savings. Until the middle of July, the printer may be purchased for $1024. The list price is $1205.

The DiscJet 4800 is the fourth generation CD/DVD printer from Trace Affex to use HP's inkjet technology. The combination of HP's inkjet expertise with Trace Affex's CD/DVD printer technology has produced the best color CD/DVD color printer on the market, according to the company.

“Unlike many of our competitors, we do not require you to buy proprietary ink cartridges,” explained Chuck Huie, CTO of Trace Affex. “Depending on usage, the cost savings can cover the entire cost of the printer very quickly. This printer is ideal for producing sharp photo-quality images. In addition to the standard Black and Tri-color ink cartridges, the DiscJet 4800 can accept a photo-quality ink cartridge (in place of the black cartridge) which provides extremely sharp photo-quality images.”

For those customers needing to automate the printing process, Trace Affex also introduced 220-disc standalone robotics ($3294). The controller is built into the robotics so no external PC is required. This robotic unit includes networking software and an Ethernet connection so images can be sent from the convenience of a PC or Mac.

“The DiscJet 4800 is the ideal CD/DVD printer for corporations, music publishers, software companies, graphics arts houses, publishing, advertising, and many other companies with a need to print colorful labels onto CD/DVD’s,” said Dave Kalstrom, Trace Affex Chief Executive Officer. “The attractive price point is a key selling feature and we expect these markets to take advantage of our aggressive pricing structure.”

The list price for the DiscJet 4800 is $1205. However, through the middle of July 2005, the price has been reduced to $1024. The standalone 220-disc robotics (including networking software) adds an additional $3294 to the price.
