Mitsubishi Introduces 14-ounce "PocketProjectors"

Irvine, CA - Mitsubishi Digital Electronics, America's Presentation Products Division, is showing two new, tiny business projectors at this week's InfoComm show in Las Vegas. According to the manufacturer these are possibly the world's smallest projectors. The PocketProjector™ and PocketProjector SD each weigh in at 14 ounces and are made to fit easily into a purse, coat pocket or the palm of a hand.
These much smaller versions of Mitsubishi's powerful professional business projectors are designed to be the perfect tools for small, collaborative meeting environments such as darkened private offices or cubicles, making a larger venue unnecessary. The PocketProjector can be battery powered or used with a universal car adapter to facilitate today's truly mobile and ad hoc presentation moments.
For personal presentations in intimate business settings, the Pocket Projectors have some of the shortest image throw distances of mobile projectors on the market today: Users can easily create a 20-inch diagonal screen with just over a foot of projection distance, and a 40-inch image in less than a yard. The SD version of the projector is equipped with a secure digital memory card slot allowing photographs and any files that have been saved in PDF format, such as a PowerPoint™ presentation to be viewed with ease and brilliance. The company is offering special suggested retail launch pricing--$699 for the basic model and $799 for the SD model,
"The reaction to these projector models has been phenomenal," said Frank Anzures, product manager for Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America's Presentation Products Division. "Every day we talk with dealers and customers who share applications where this little projector will do a big job for them. For instance, it basically creates a meeting room in a small office where the viewing screen and angle of a laptop just doesn't work."
The PocketProjectors power on or off instantly and can connect to almost any notebook or pocket computer with a monitor-out-even a portable DVD player-for immediate use anywhere. Three Lumileds™ LEDs (red, green, blue) produce an SVGA (800 x 600 pixels) image using the latest Texas Instruments Digital Light Processing™ technology. According to the manufacturer, the projectors' advanced lighting technology is rated to last an unprecedented 20,000 hours; with an average use of five hours per day, the lamp is expected to last over ten years.
The projectors ship with protective slip covers and AC power cords; Mitsubishi plans to offer Convenience Packs with suggested retail prices starting from $199, which will contain application-specific cables and accessories for consumer and industry segments. Optional battery bases will also be available for a suggested retail price of $149.
"These models are going to be one of the most versatile performers in our product line," said Aki Ninomiya, vice president, Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America. "They have already established new standards and created all new applications and markets for professional projection displays."
Availability, limited warranty
The new PocketProjectors will be available in July 2005 from Mitsubishi's professional dealer network and through selected online retailers and retail channels. The optional battery and convenience packs will also be made available upon release of the projector. The projectors come with the Mitsubishi one-year limited warranty on parts and labor.
