Pomona Intros Insulation Displacement XLR Connectors
April 15, 2005
Everett, WA - Pomona Electronics introduced its insulation displacement XLR connectors that eliminate stripping and soldering conductors. They feature a patented clamping mechanism that will withstand up-to-100 pounds of pull without disconnecting the cable, the manufacturer reports, more than twice the pull rating of other leading brands of XLR connectors.
Each conductor of the wire is placed between two blades in the connector, so as the connector is screwed together, the blades pierce the insulation, making contact with the conductor.
IDC/XLR connectors are part of Pomona's line of connectors and components for HD and digital video, audio and home entertainment.
The connectors are available from most general electronics and broadcast specialty distributors in four configurations: models 7273 (male, silver contacts, nickel shell, thermoplastic back shell), 7274 (female, silver contacts, nickel shell, thermoplastic back shell), 7275 (male, silver contacts, black shell, thermoplastic boot; pictured) and 7276 (female, silver contacts, black shell, thermoplastic boot).
