FireWire Extender 800 Available from Gefen
March 03, 2005
Woodland Hills, CA - Gefen's new Firewire Extender 800, extending computer generated video for remote powered performance, is now available. It works through a sender and receiver system that connects the local computer to the remote device with multimode fiber optics cables.
This enables equipment to operate as if connected locally when anywhere within a 300 foot (100 meter) distance from the source.
The Firewire Extender 800 sends large amounts of data speedily at rates up to 800 megabits per second (initial releases and industry announcements from the manufacturer indicated an 800 megabyte throughput; inquiries from weva.com to the manufacturer have subsequently clarified the specification).
The use of fiber optics cabling combined with innovative data packaging is what allows FireWire devices to perform as if connected directly to the source, the company added.
