B&H Operations Unaffected by Warehouse Fire
February 28, 2005
New York City, NY - Over the weekend, conflicting online reports about a fire that had raged through the structure adjacent to B&H Photo/Video's Brooklyn, NY warehouse in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, raised industry concerns about the impact of the blaze, including the extent of injuries and damages.
WABC-TV in New York City reported that it took 140 firefighters and 40 pieces of equipment to fight the four-alarm fire that occurred about 3:30 pm last Thursday in the three-story building. The TV news crew reported that at the height of the blaze, firefighters had to cut through fences at the Navy Yard to get to the fire inside the building.
Henry Posner, B&H spokesperson, told Stuart Sweetow, associate editor of Wedding & Event Videography magazine today that there was only minor smoke and water damage at the B&H warehouse and that it did not disrupt any shipments to customers and did not affect operations at the B&H flagship store in Manhattan. Posner said warehouse operations were down "for only a few short hours" and were "up and cooking 100%" by Friday morning.
While ABC-TV news in New York reported one minor injury and property damage, Posner told Wedding & Event Videography he knew of no injuries and said the primary damage was to the property adjacent to the B&H warehouse. He did acknowledge that the fire may have caused damage to some cardboard boxes containing TV monitors stored in B&H warehouse but said no customer's merchandise was damaged in any way. |
