Video Editing Software Gets SmartSound
January 28, 2005
Northridge, CA - CyberLink is embedding SmartSound Software's Quicktracks technology in its new PowerDirector 4 video editing software. SmartSound's Quicktracks technology is the driving force behind the MagicMusic feature inside CyberLink PowerDirector 4.
The patented technology allows users to create soundtracks for their projects through SmartSound's unique "block" method. Once a song is selected from SmartSound's royalty-free music library and brought into the timeline, the song is automatically rearranged into a complete soundtrack - with a musical beginning and ending - that matches up with the on-screen visuals. The songs can fit any length needed, from a few seconds to several minutes, the manufacturer describes.
SmartSound has developed a Quicktracks SDK (Software Development Kit) to enable visual application developers to tap into the power of SmartSound's patented technology and library of more than 80 music and sound effects CDs.
Companies such as Avid and Ulead have also integrated SmartSound technology into their video editing product lines in the past 12 months. Combined with existing partnerships with Pinnacle (which includes SmartSound technology in its Studio Series) and Adobe (which currently sells a plug-in version of the Quicktracks technology for its Premiere Pro and Elements software on its Web site), this makes SmartSound the leading automated soundtrack creation solution for the video editing industry.
Anyone who purchases PowerDirector 4 can increase their music library by purchasing additional SmartSound Music CDs. The SmartSound Movie Music CDs are licensed for home and educational use, and feature musical selections most used by home video creators. Movie Music CDs can be purchased direct from SmartSound or participating resellers. Additionally, SmartSound music can be purchased as individual cuts or complete CDs from directly inside the PowerDirector 4 program.
