December 28, 2004
Hannover, GE - Eyetop has announced its first digital camcorder built into a pair of glasses, taking video to what it calls the record-what-u-see mode.
The technology consists of two basic elements. the Eyetop CAMTOP, a pair of audio video glasses that uses patented Eyetop video eyewear display technology.
Eyetop has embedded a camera and microphone in the left temple while placing a video monitor and earphones on the right temple of the wearable glasses This allows the wearer to shoot video while wearing the glasses and simultaneously monitor the camera via the integrated Eyetop color video LCD monitor, the company describes. The monitor provides a virtual screen which floats in front of the right eye.
The second key element to the CAMTOP system is a 20 gigabyte hard drive, able to store hours of video recorded in MPEG-4 Divx format. The hard drive features full camcorder controls, USB 2.0 link to PC, integrated rechargeable batteries and cradle, along with A/V output for direct connection to TV.
A RF remote control gives control of the system even when the recorder is stored in a bag or in a pocket. The hard drive accepts any data format and can play .avi and MPEG videos, as well as mp3s and WMAs.
The Eyetop CAMTOP is designed for introduction in the second half of 2005 with a retail below $900.
