New Panasonic 16 x 9 DLP and LCD Projectors Unveiled
September 15, 2004

Indianapolis, IN - Panasonic announced new widescreen projectors for medium, large and home venue operation.

The three-chip DLP PT-DW7000U and PT-D7700U are suited for home theatre applications. The native 16 x 9 PT-DW7000U also offers a versatile presentation style where XGA graphics and high-definition video can be combined on one screen. The PT-DW7000U offers more than 5,000 lumens of brightness and a 1366 x 768 WXGA resolution. The PT-D7700U produces 7000 lumens of brightness and a 1400 x 1050 SXGA+ resolution.

The projectors deliver a 4000:1 contrast ratio with Panasonic’s Dynamic Iris, which adjusts the aperture according to the input signal. The units’ high-speed digital signal processing (with 16-bit color depth for wider dynamic range) and progressive cinema scan (3/2 pull down) capabilities combine to produce rich, detailed blacks and reproduce 24 frames-per-second film-based video.

The PT-DW7000U/D7700U are easy to setup with one-touch auto-setup with horizontal/vertical lens shift and Digital Keystone correction. The 16 x 9 HDTV units can automatically synchronize to display 1080/24p, 1080/24sF, 1080/30p, 1080/25p, 1080/60i-50i, 1035/60i 720p, 480p and 480/576i video in the conventional 4 x 3 aspect ratio. They can project on screens from 70” to 600”. Other standard benefits include RS-232C/RS-422 input/output control; mechanical shutter; 96 user memories; and selectable seven-language on-screen menu. Both projectors weigh 48 pounds and measure 20-7/8” W x 7-7/8” H x 22-13/32 D. In addition to a wide range of standard inputs (two RGB/YPbPr, S-video and composite video), optional input boards include HD-SDI, SD-SDI, RGB/YPbPr, DVI, Ethernet, and video/S-Video.

Panasonic also announced the PT-D5500U and PT-D5500UL, one-chip, mid-to-large venue DLP projectors.

The PT-D5500U and PT-D5500UL are equipped with a high-contrast, one-chip DLP subsystem and a completely-sealed, dust-free, fluid-cooled optical system. The micromirrors in the PT-D5500U/UL’s newly-developed Texas Instruments DLP chip are tilted +/- 12 degrees for improved brightness. New Panasonic-exclusive optical technologies deliver an impressive contrast ratio of over 1600:1. Panasonic’s newly-developed digital signal processing circuitry greatly improves the projectors’ picture quality, making the PT-D5500U and PT-D5500UL perfect for premium home and entertainment installations. The PT-D5500U/UL displays in 1024 x 768 XGA resolution. The projectors offer a full array of inputs, including DVI, two computer (RGB) and three video (component, composite and S-Video).

In addition, the PT-D5500s have a wired LAN connector, RS-232C and external remote terminals. The PT-D5500 series use a bayonet-type lens system, so lenses attach and detach with one-touch ease. The units can project on screens from 70” to 600”, and are only 6.5-inches high and weigh a modest 33 pounds.

The new PT-AE700U was also introduced, a native high-definition home theater projector capable of displaying an ultra-sharp, ultra-clear HD picture up to 14.5-feet wide.

The 1000-lumens PT-AE700U’s three 16 x 9 native, 1,280 x 720 pixel (2.76 million effective pixels) HD LCD panels produce a phenomenal picture quality and beautifully saturated colors even in well-lit rooms.

The PT-AE700U is outfitted with a wide range of inputs, including an HDMI input that accepts all high definition digital sources; component video inputs to connect to analog HD sources or progressive scan DVD players; a PC IN input to connect multimedia computer sources; composite video; and S-Video. The PT-AE700 weighs 7.9 pounds, and its dimensions are 13-3/16” W x 3-23/32” H x 10-5/8” D.

The PT-DW7000U and PT-D7700 will be available in November at suggested list prices of $27,000 and $35,000, respectively.

The PT-D5500U and PT-D5500UL will be available later this month at the suggested list prices of $12,000 and $11,500, respectively.

The PT-AE700 will be available in late September at a suggested list price of $2,999.
