Media 100 Announces 844/X HD, New Features for 844/X
September 09, 2004

Tewksbury, MA - Media 100, a unit of Optibase, is developing a native-HD implementation of its award-winning 844/X real-time editing-compositing system, the company announced.

Based on the 10-bit, real-time architecture of today's 844/X systems, 844/X HD will natively support all HD and SD formats and provide the same real-time,
multi-stream performance and functionality with HD projects as today's SD version of 844/X. 844/X HD is expected to be available in 2005.

844/X HD is the first 844/X system to utilize variable bit-rate compression of both HD and SD data and will include one of the first mathematically
lossless, uncompressed-quality HD compression algorithms available in a digital video system. This will allow 844/X HD users to conserve disk
storage space while maintaining pristine images that are mathematically equivalent to 10-bit uncompressed quality.

As well, the company announced new capabilities in development for the current 844/X nonlinear package, including new finishing toolsets that, when available,
will make 844/X a more compatible and valuable companion to most post-production workflows. The new features include:

. Native support of Final Cut Pro XML format for program data and metadata compatibility with Apple's popular editing tool;
. AAF support for importing project data and metadata from AAF-compatible offline editing systems, such as Avid Media Composer;
. An integrated multi-layer video paint tool for background, retouch treatments and other graphic treatments;
. Motion tracking including automatic creation of motion-alpha mattes;
. Image stabilization for smoothing out camera movements;
. New toolsets for audio sweetening and sound finishing;
. Enhanced color correction capabilities, including full support for color matching;
. 3:2 pulldown support for editing film or other 24P-originated material.

Media 100 plans beta testing of the features mentioned in its announcement in early 2005 and deliver them in a future 844/X software release. 844/X HD will be a new product incorporating new software and hardware currently in development. Existing 844/X customers will be able to upgrade to 844/X HD for a nominal fee. 844/X HD is expected to be available in 2005.

Complete 844/X system configurations featuring the Version 3.0 software release start at around $20,000 and are available exclusively through
authorized 844/X value-added resellers.
