VIZRT 3D Rendering Engine Powered by NVIDIA Quadro FX
September 03, 2004
Bergen, Norway - Vizrt has teamed with NVIDIA Corporation to provide increased value and speed for real-time HD graphics production. By adding NVIDIA Quadro FX 4000 and FX 4000 SDI professional graphics boards to its Viz|Engine 3D rendering solution, HD graphics may be produced in real time on readily available PC workstations - an option not previously available with Vizrt's viz|engine 3D rendering solution, the company describes.
In some of Vizrt's own application-based tests comparing the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4000 with the previously used board of the same class, the rendering performance of Viz|Engine has shown increases in speed of up to 1,000 percent.
In one of the tests looking at pixel fill performance with full-scene anti-aliasing, Viz|Engine rendered 70 full PAL resolution layers (blended, shaded, and textured) with the Quadro FX 4000 card - 20x more layers than possibly before. By using vertex and pixel shaders, visual capabilities within viz|engine are also greatly improved compared to the prior generation.
The end result: artists can produce more realistic, complex, and better-looking HD graphics using a less expensive PC workstation instead of a UNIX workstation, it wasy reported.
The NVIDIA boards replace Viz|Engine's current 3Dlabs' Wildcat 7110 card. Vizrt's high-end HD viz|engine rendering system will still utilize Panasonic's CGP-500 graphics card. The NVIDIA-enabled viz|engines are designed for users looking to create realistic HD graphics from a PC workstation.
About the Products:
The NVIDIA Quadro FX 4000 sets a new bar for workstation graphics, shattering the limits of performance, programmability, precision, and quality for professional CAD, DCC, and scientific applications. Featuring a revolutionary new architecture with 2x the geometry and fill rate; 5x the hardware pixel read-back performance; 1.25x the memory bandwidth of previous generation workstation graphics; and support for ultra-fast GDDR3 memory, the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4000 is the industry's first true ultra high-end workstation graphics solution. The board also features a rotated-grid FSAA algorithm for far greater sophistication in the multi-sampling pattern. It significantly increases color accuracy and visual quality of edges and lines without compromising performance.
The NVIDIA Quadro FX 4000 SDI has all the features of the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4000 and in addition features two configurable 8-bit or 10-bit channels of fill or key and allows users to tailor the color conversion to specific requirements. Running on both Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems, the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4000 SDI board provides operating modes ranging from a transparent one¯working on top of existing applications¯to programmable, high-precision modes that offer up to 10-bit 4:4:4:4 for integration with broadcast or video editing applications through an NVIDIA application programming interface.
viz|engine is Vizrt's world-class 3D rendering engine and is at the core of all Vizrt's real-time graphical solutions. It is the output source for elements created and controlled with viz|trio, Vizrt's real-time 3D character generator and graphics system. Animated scenes designed on the viz|artist design application, either 2D or 3D, are rendered in real-time as high-end animations and output as SDI or high definition video. viz|engine is primarily used to render graphics animations for live TV programs, but can be equally applied to post-production, webcasting, and non-broadcast large scale displays.
