Freecom Ships External DVD+/-RW Double Layer Recorder

Dresden, Germany - Freecom Technologies is selling the newest member of its Classic line of optical- and hard-drive storage devices, an external DVD+/-RW drive that supports DVD+R double-layer recording.
The unit is compatible with all disc types, allowing users to burn DVDs and CDs with complete confidence, the manufacturer reports.
Beside its DVD+R DL 2.4x capability, product specifications for the unit include: DVD+R 8x, DVD+RW 4x, DVD-R 8x, DVD-RW 4x, DVD-ROM 12x, CD-R 32x, CD-RW 16x, and CD-ROM 40x. It is compatible with both Mac and Windows 98SE/2000/ME/XP.
As with the rest of its high-speed Classic line-up, this latest-generation Freecom drive has been engineered to be a complete, easy-to-use storage solution with no other accessory purchase necessary. It can be installed in seconds without having to open the computer. Its external USB-2 design provides the flexibility to allow it to be moved effortlessly from one computer to another. Convenience is further enhanced by the fact that it may be connected or disconnected without restarting.
Among the items included with the unit are a USB cable, DVD authoring software suite (PC only), 1x DVD+R disc, and an easy-to-follow seven-language owner's manual It comes with Freecom's famous free help-desk support and a two-year manufacturer's warranty.
The FX-50 double-layer external DVD+/-RW burner (pictured) stores up to 8.5 gigabytes of data or up to four hours of video.
The DVD+R Double Layer type media are compatible with DVD-ROM drives and DVD players and are written by the Freecom drive at 2.4x speed. The FX-50 offers an 8x writing speed for conventional DVD+R/DVD-Rs and a 4x writing speed for DVD+RWs/DVD-RWs, enabling a 4.7 gigabyte blank disc to be written in about 8 minutes. CD-R/RW media are written at either 32x or 16x speed, and CD/DVD-ROMs read at 40x or 12x speed.
The external multi-format burner with double-layer technology can be installed in seconds by simply connecting it to the USB 2.0 or FireWire interface using the cable supplied - for maximum performance on both PCs and notebooks. Power is provided by the included power supply unit.
With the Freecom FX-50 multi-format DVD burner, users can create double-layer DVDs, DVDs and CDs, read CD-ROMs and play DVD videos. Using the included software, videos can be digitally edited on the computer and then stored on double-layer DVD (8.5 GB). The FX-50 Double Layer enables the storage of up to four hours of high-quality film recording or up to five-and-a-half hours of video recording in VHS quality on a double-layer DVD.
Freecom supplies the FX-50 DVD+/-RW Double Layer together with USB 2.0 and FireWire connection cable and a comprehensive range of software. The latest Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator DVD Edition DVD/CD burner software also includes DVD-Builder for video editing and DVD authoring and the DVDMax DVD player software. The package also includes a power supply unit, one DVD+R, one CD-R and the multilingual manual.
