Archos Delivers Pocket Video Recorders

Irvine, CA - Archos is delivering models in its new pocket sized Digital Video Recorders family, featuring audio/video recording and scheduling capabilities, along with audio, photo and data storage.
The Pocket Video Recorder AV400 series (AV 480 pictured) presents new features in a portable video player, including a sleek and small design, 20-gigabyte to 100-gigabyte hard disk capacity, removable battery for extended life (20-gigabyte version), one-time set-up TV Cradle, an external speaker for enjoying music and video without headphones, and a built-in Compact Flash reader for transferring photos directly from digital cameras, the manufacturer describes.
The AV400 features a high-resolution, 3.5-inch or 3.8-inch color LCD screen or can be used directly with a TV, PC or other video display device.
Video playback utililzes MPEG-4 SP with MP3 or ADPCM stereo sound, at near DVD quality up to 704x480 @ 30 f/s, AVI file format, compatible XviD and DivX 4.0 & 5.0. Video recording is MPEG-4 SP with ADPCM stereo sound, at near SVCD quality (optimised resolution for standard TV through composite video line-in) with up to 512x384 @ 30 f/s, in AVI format, the company describes.
The product line-up also features a TV Cradle docking station for recording directly from a TV, VCR or cable/satellite tuner. The AV400 Recording Scheduler directly controls a tuner inside a VCR or cable/satellite receiver to automatically adjust channel and record time and duration.
The designed music player records between 300 and up to 1500 hours of music, with playback in MP3, WMA or WAV formats using a built-in speaker or headphones. JPEG photos can be transfered from computers using USB 2.0 or from memory cards using the built-in CompactFlash reader. The Pocket Video Recorder AV400 can also support SD, MMC, SmartMedia, Memory Stick or Memory Stick Pro.
An optional FM Radio & Remote Control accessory transforms the AV400 into a radio with full MP3 voice recording capabilities. As well, the AV400 is seen as an additional drive on your computer and can store any computer file using the USB 2.0 (USB 1.1 compatible).
Leading with the 20-gigabyte and 80-gigabyte models, the AV400 series is now available and priced at $549.95 and $799.95, respectively.
