HD Connector/Conversion Solutions From Gefen Ease A/V Installations
June 18, 2004
Atlanta, GA - Gefen has released two new high definition (HD) connection solutions that bridge incompatible interfaces manufactured on today’s HD video equipment.
Typically, DVI, HDMI and SDI are the connectors currently used to connect HD video sources that can transmit HD resolutions ranging from 480p up to 1080i to a display via cable. Each connector, however, is unable to physically connect to the other unless it is the same. DVI is often used in professional A/V environments, SDI in broadcasting and HDMI in the consumer electronics industry, the manufacturer describes.
Gefen’s adapters enable the connection of dissimilar digital video interfaces through a small piece of equipment that links one device to the other, essentially converting the signal, one-way, to the other format. Current solutions convert SDI to DVI and HDMI to DVI.
The SDI to DVI Adapter connects SDI video sources to DVI displays. It supports multiple formats including NTSC, PAL and SMPTE, and is compatible with most LCD, plasma and HD displays and sources that output SDI, including HD SDI. As an added bonus, it accepts two inputs and can switch between both using just the one display.
The HDMI to DVI Adapter simply and effectively converts HD video from HDMI sources to digital displays using DVI at multiple resolutions up to 1080i.
Gefen’s SDI to DVI Adapter ($999) and the HDMI to DVI Adapter ($39) are available for purchase online.
