Fast Forward Video Makes Its Covert Debut at NAB
April 14, 2004
Irvine, CA - Fast Forward Video, Inc. (FFV) will be debuting its new ultra-compact Covert DVR at NAB.
First announced as a prototype product in Weva.com Industry News section in December, 2003, the Covert DVR is a standalone, handheld, pocket-sized digital video recorder measuring only 5.7 x 1.0 x 3.55 inches, and is designed for applications requiring broadcast quality recording.
The device uses a scalable Motion JPEG (MJPEG) compression for maximum image capture and 720 x 486 pixel image resolution on every frame.
Two Covert DVR models are available, providing a choice of storage options
for users. Small enough to fit in the palm of the hand, slip into a pocket,
or hang on a belt, the Covert DVR cf is configured with two compact flash
card slots for easy removal and transfer of recorded video. The Covert DVR
ide provides a choice between an ATAPI/IDE hard drive or a solid-state
flash drive. ATAPI hard drives are available in robust 2.5-inch sizes
ranging from 20 to 80 GB capacities or in a shockproof solid state style
with capacities of 1 to 34 GB. All models are equipped for file transfer
via an on-board USB 2.0 port and provide removable, rechargeable
lithium-ion batteries or low voltage DC power input combined with low power
drain for full portability.
Covert DVR is designed with the same broadcast industry award-winning
technology as the Fast Forward Video OMEGA DECK and the ultra compact Recon DVR while offering more features, smaller size, and greater flexibility.
Easy to conceal and using a solid-state disk drive, the Covert is truly a
go-anywhere DVR. It is equally at home in off-road, rugged terrain,
mountain, and desert environments and particularly suited for mobile,
on-body, and in-vehicle applications.
The Covert DVR features video capture and playback at 60 fields per second,
resolution greater than 550 lines at 4:1 compression, user-selectable
compression ratios ranging from 4:1 to 20:1, and recording times averaging
between four to 20 minutes per GB. GPI control panel options include record,
seek, or scan forward/backward; single-frame forward/reverse; delete clips;
and play/pause.
FFV's newest DVR product also features a time/date stamp and character
display, time-lapse recording, NTSC/PAL compatibility, composite and Y/C
inputs and outputs, pre-event record, and loop record of PC-viewable files
or secure video files. External control is available through optional
machine control software.
