Gefen Extends High Definition Video

Las Vegas, NV - Gefen will unveil new products to extend HD video signal distribution in various video system and production environments, the company has announced.
1 - DVI Extender
Gefenšs newest DVI Extender uses proprietary, integrated circuitry combined with new chip technologies to extend high definition video over CAT5 cables using DVI connectors, a more economical solution than fiber optics, resulting in less expensive cabling costs.
Two models are in development: one that extends high definition video using DVI and one that extends high definition video plus USB for connecting controlling devices at the extended location. Both models use a sender and receiver system connected with CAT5 cables at distances reaching up to 165 feet.
The DVI Extender was designed for use with video systems that are already using CAT5 cables and upgrading to digital imagery. High definition video is supported up to 1080I and the unit is HDCP (high definition content protection) compliant.
2 - DVI-1000 HD
For precise replication of high definition video at long distances from the video source, Gefenšs DVI-1000 HD uses a sender and receiver connected by HDTV Extreme cabling, composed of fiber optics. HDTV signals are sent from the source to the sender, transmitted over HDTV Extreme cables to the receiver and to the extended HDTV display. Both the sender and the receiver run on a single, external power supply (included), which can be connected at the source or the extended location.
The DVI-1000 HD extends high definition video through DVI (digital visual interface) connectors up to 1200 feet in distance. It is HDCP compliant and compatible with all DVI-equipped high definition sources and displays. The DVI-1000 HD works with HDMI devices when used with Gefenšs HDMI to DVI Adapter, a small metallic tool that converts HDTV visual data to a format accepted by DVI devices.
3 - HDTV Repeater
An economic alternative for extending HDTV shorter distances is available in Gefenšs HDTV Repeater.
The Repeater is a single box solution that sits between two DVI cables, essentially repeating the HDTV signal from the first cable and transmitting it through the second cable to the extended display. It is designed for use with Gefenšs copper-based DVI cables, which are currently available in 25, 30, 40 and 50 foot lengths.
Any two cable combinations can be used to tailor the length to specific distances from 50 to 100 feet. The HDTV Repeater uses one 5-volt power supply to operate and is HDCP compliant.
Gefenšs DVI-1000 HD and the HDTV Repeater are currently shipping. Products may be purchased online or through a Gefen reseller, also listed online. The DVI Extender is available to order, and is expected to begin shipping in May.
