Video Products Start New Year With Strong Sales

Arlington, VA - anufacturer-to-dealer sales of video products totaled 3,663,709 units for the month of January, an increase of 25 percent compared to the same time period in 2003, according to figures released by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).
TV/DVD combinations, DVD players, camcorders and digital television (DTV) products were among the digital video products that continued to demonstrate increased sales growth, ringing in 2004 with a bang.
Factory-to-dealer sales of TV/DVD combinations totaled125,723 units for the month of January, representing an increase of 210 percent compared to the same period in 2003, while sales of DVD players increased by nearly 40 percent with unit sales totaling 1,111,285. Shipments of camcorders also were up for the month with 231,944 units - up some 35 percent, compared to January 2003 shipments. Manufacturer-to-dealer shipments of direct-view and rear projection DTV products alone increased by 75 percent, compared to the same period in 2003, with shipments totaling 263,697 units for the month of January.
