Panasonic's New SDX900 Camcorder Now Available
January 23, 2004
Mississauga, ON - Panasonic Canada announced the availability of its SDX900 dual-mode DVCPRO Cinema camcorder.
The SDX900 is the first standard definition camcorder capable of image capturing at film-like 24 frames per second progressive scan (480/24p), 30 frames per second progressive scan (480/30p) and 60-fields-per-second interlace scan (480/60i), the manufacturer reports.
The SDX900 offers complete flexibility expressed in the operator-controllable selection of 4:2:2 colour sampled DVCPRO 50 for advertising and film recording applications or 4:1:1 colour sampled DVCPRO 25 for news and industrial recording applications in either native 16 X 9 wide-screen or 4 X 3 aspect ratios.
The AJ-SDX900 features three newly-developed 2/3" 520,000-pixel IT progressive scanning CCDs that provide a high sensitivity of F13 at 2000 lux, 65dB signal-to-noise ratio and low-light shooting down to 0.09 lux (+48dB). Advanced 12-bit A/D DSP signal processing circuits provide superb picture quality, colour expression and luminance gradation, while a 12-axis matrix colour correction allows very specific colours to be adjusted without affecting the overall colour tone.
The SDX900 is an innovative component of Panasonic's electronic field production strategy, offering 24p acquisition capabilities at all price points in the marketplace. The new camera complements the existing AJ-HDC27F VariCam, and AG-DVX100A DV Cinema cameras and the AJ-SD930 and AJ-SD955A series IEEE (FireWire) 1394-supported studio VTRs, creating an affordable yet high-quality production system spanning all market levels.
The camera is also equipped with a super gain function with a maximum gain of 48dB and a new time-accumulate digital super gain for night-time shooting.
The SDX900 offers a maximum record time of 33 minutes in DVCPRO 50 and 66 minutes in DVCPRO 25, and four 48kHz/16-bit digital audio channels in 50Mbps DVCPRO 50. The unit is lightweight at 6.8 kg. fully-equipped and well-balanced for the shooter’s comfort.
Other key functions include: one-touch camera status report; interval REC for time-lapse recording; an electronic shutter; two four-position optical filters; four built-in user scene files and three user-customizable function buttons; a marker selector function (for displaying a 4:3 marker); multi-functional zebra pattern/display adjustment; SD memory card for storage of operational settings; low power consumption of 24 watts; quick response standby mode; an optional pre-recording board that permits the camera to capture spontaneous scenes a shooter might otherwise miss; built-in time code generator/reader and genlock; and phantom power supply (48V phantom mic).
Panasonic Canada Inc. (PCI) is a division of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (MEI).
The SDX900 is priced at $38,000 CDN (approx $28,000 USD).
