New JVC DVD Recorders Include Hard Disk, VHS Combo Models
January 13, 2004
Wayne, NJ - JVC has introduced new DVD recorders, including a model with multi-format compatibility and two combination units - a DVD/hard disk model and a DVD/VHS recorder.
Anchoring the JVC DVD recorder line is the DR-M10SL, which records in the DVD-RAM and DVD-R/RW formats, and includes an array of technical innovations that ensure high picture quality and convenience features that make it easy to make the most of the recorder's versatility, the manufacturer reports.
The line also includes the DR-MH30SL, a DVD/hard disk recorder combination with a 160GB hard drive, and the DR-MV1SL, a DVD/VHS recorder that features JVC's exclusive VHS Progressive, which allows VHS mode playback in 480p. Both combination units offer dubbing between their two built-in decks.
The DR-M10SL DVD recorder shares all of its features with the two combo models. In addition to recording in the DVD-RAM and DVD-R/RW formats, it offers true multi-format compatibility on playback, with the ability to play the DVD-RAM, DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW formats, as well as CD, VCD, SVCD, JPEG and MP3 files.
JVC's DR-M10SL offers several technical features that boost image quality, including:
Super MPEG Encode Pre-Processor - a three-step process that takes place before MPEG-2 encoding of the input signal. A time base corrector eliminates jitter, a frame synchronizer provides frame normalization, and Motion Active Noise Reduction provides a clearer image than with conventional frame noise reduction, such as 3D noise reduction, by using an algorithm that predicts motion and applying it between moving pictures to minimize image lag. Super MPEG Post-Processor - enhances playback image quality through block noise reduction circuitry, Color DigiPure that provides 3D noise reduction along with color and detail enhancement, and Hadamard noise reduction to eliminate mosquito noise.
Connections include iLink; front and rear S-Video and composite inputs; component, S-Video and composite outputs; front audio input; and optical, digital coaxial and analog audio outputs.
JVC's DR-MH30SL combines the DR-M10SL DVD recorder with a 160GB hard disk recorder into a single deck that provides extraordinary versatility. It permits flexible editing capabilities and easy digital-to-digital dubbing of high quality images, including high speed dubbing (RAM X3, -RW X2, -R X4), with no wired connections to be made, and is ideal for temporarily storing content on the hard disk and then selectively archiving material permanently on DVD.
The DR-MH30SL can pause a live recording and provides several simultaneous recording and playback options - recording on the hard disk while playing back from the hard disk or DVD, or recording on DVD while playing back from the hard disk. Among its other capabilities is a fail-safe recording feature during DVD recording that automatically moves an entire program to the hard disk should the program run longer than the DVD's available space.
Editing using the DR-MH30SL is a snap, thanks to its navigation system with thumbnail images. Editing from the hard disk to DVD is as simple as creating a playlist, and the thumbnails make it easy to find the desired scenes. Dubbing is just as easy - just select the desired scenes and press "OK".
For those with a collection of VHS recordings they would like to continue to use or archive onto DVD, JVC offers the DR-MV1SL, which combines the DR-M10SL DVD recorder with a VHS VCR featuring JVC's new VHS Progressive for enjoying VHS material at higher 480p resolution. The DR-MV1SL offers one-touch dual-direction dubbing between the DVD and VHS sections for easy archiving and editing. In addition, it includes twin tuners that allow DVD and VHS recording to be performed separately, and even simultaneously from different TV channels. The live memory feature when using the DVD-RAM format allows simultaneous recording and playback. In addition, VHS playback is possible during DVD recording, and DVD playback is possible during VHS recording.
The DR-M10SL will be available in March 2004 at a nationally advertised value of $699.00; the DR-MH30SL will be available in June 2004 for $999.00.
The DR-MV1SL will be available in April at $799.00.
