Sony Names New President for Broadcast and Professional Systems
December 29, 2003
Park Ridge, N.J. - John Scarcella has been named president of Sony Electronics' Broadcast and Production Systems Division (BPSD).
Effective January 5, 2004, Scarcella (pictured) will succeed Patrick Whittingham, who has announced his retirement from Sony Electronics. In addition to his new role, Scarcella will also maintain his current responsibilities as president of Sony Electronics' Business Solutions Division.
Scarcella joined Sony in 1985, and has successfully held management positions with several business groups in the company. "I'm looking forward to working with the current BPSD management team, continuing to strengthen Sony's leadership position in the content creation, broadcast and professional audio/video markets," Scarcella said.
Whittingham, a 29-year Sony veteran, elected to take advantage of the company's early retirement program.
In other BPSD organizational changes, Alec Shapiro has been named senior vice president of marketing, a role previously held by Stephen Jacobs, who will now be the division's senior vice president responsible for strategic planning and alliances.
Robert Willox has also been named general manager of BPSD's content creation unit, succeeding Larry Thorpe, who also elected to accept the early retirement offering.
