Austin, TX - FirewireDirect.com is now shipping the Spark 800 2.5” Hard Drive, new to its line of FireWire 800 storage products.
The Spark 800 is a FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 equipped portable 2.5” hard drive, available in configurations up to 320 gigabytes, manufactured by FirewireDirect in a silver chassis barely larger than a deck of cards. As a 1394 “B” device, it’s about twice as fast as existing portable FireWire solutions, the company describes. Equipped with the Oxford922 800Mbps bridge board and new 2.5” drives, it offers up to 40 MB/s write transfer rate, at 7200 RPM.
Shipping with FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 cables, it includes a worldwide power adapter and carrying case. Drives are formatted by FirewireDirect for both major platforms and ship with a powerful software bundle; MacDrive for Windows and Intech’s Speed Tools for the Mac.
Products are shipping now; an external enclosure system is priced at $139.95, models start at $235.00 (80 GB).
