Sharp Announces Battery Operated Wireless LCD TV
September 22, 2003
Mississauga, ON - Sharp Electronics Canada has unveiled what's being called the first battery-operated wireless LCD television.
The new 15-inch Wireless AQUOS Television (model LC-15L1U-S) supports crystal-clear TV, video and DVD enjoyment virtually anywhere in the home or office without wires, the manufacturer describes.
It features sculpted, rounded stereo side speakers and a built-in carrying handle and table stand. The built-in, rechargeable high-capacity lithium-ion battery provides enough power to watch up to three hours of TV without interruption. The set uses Sharp's SmartLink wireless digital audio video transmission system, which operates on the 802.11B wireless standard. The transmitter may be connected to a video sosurce, such as VCR or DVD player. The system transmits digital wireless signals using the 2.4 GHz band high-speed spectrum wireless protocols.
The wireless TV design was created by industrial designer Toshiyuki Kita, whose artwork is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
As with previous AQUOS models, the LC-15L1U-S uses an Advanced Super View
(ASV) panel with Sharp's proprietary "Black TFT" low-reflection coating. The unit also offers 170-degree viewing angles, as well as high contrast (500:1) for clear vivid pictures, and high brightness (450 cd/m2) for blacker blacks and exceptional color clarity.
All products in the AQUOS line offer a long life backlight (60,000 hours), multiple video signal inputs (S-Video and Composite), built-in cable TV tuner, remote control, V-Chip and high brightness for more vibrant colors in darker environments.
The LC-15L1U will be available in January 2004 for a manufacturer's
suggested retail price of $1,799 ($2,799 CDN).
