WEVA EXPO 2003 Registration Opens Online
June 22, 2003
Sarasota, FL - Registration and program information for the WEVA 13th Annual Wedding & Event Video Expo (August 25-28, 2003) has opened online at www.weva.com. WEVA EXPO 2003, the world’s largest convention and trade show for professional wedding and event videographers, will feature over 60 new, cutting-edge seminars and workshops devoted to professional wedding and event video creativity, technology, and business advancements, in tandem with the industry’s largest exhibition of new DV, DVD, HD and NLE systems, products, services, and accessories.
“With all of the bold, new changes occurring in professional wedding and event videography, coupled with all of the new business opportunities emerging for skilled videographers, WEVA EXPO 2003 is set to be our industry’s biggest and most exciting event to date!” said WEVA EXPO Chairman, Roy Chapman.
At WEVA EXPO 2003 attendees will “Get Behind-the-Scenes and Focus on Success.” All new seminars, workshops, panel discussions, and system-specific training will demonstrate how videographers worldwide are transforming raw wedding and event footage into awesome productions by expanding video artistry and improving digital workflow. The full slate of new programs includes new sessions on business management and marketing, along with an increased focus on special event diversification.
The WEVA Trade Show will offer videographers ample time to go "hands-on" with the most advanced technology aimed at professional wedding and event videographers. Attendees are advised to get to the Trade Show early to take advantage of free system-specific training and presentations by exhibitors who will be running class sessions (on a first-come basis) throughout the two-day Show. The trade show floor will be filled with larger and more extensive hands-on exhibits, too, featuring the newest DV, DVD, NLE, and HD technology for professional videographers. In addition, many exhibitors will be offering EXPO-only discounts.
“At WEVA EXPO 2003 wedding and event videographers will be able to choose from an outstanding selection of creative, technical, and business programs, including a choice of seminars and workshops for both newcomers and industry veterans,” said WEVA EXPO 2003 Director, Tim Ryan. What is especially exciting is WEVA EXPO’s all-new ‘Battle of the Videographers’ series, featuring our industry’s first-ever ‘Love Story Shoot-Out.’ The series also includes WEVA’s ‘Battle of the Wedding Editing Styles’ and the new ‘Battle of the Photo Montages.’
The WEVA Love Story Shoot-Out began in the spring, said Ryan, when four nationally recognized wedding videographers taped the same couple at Bally’s/Paris Hotel on separate occasions. WEVA cameras recorded the behind-the-scenes footage of each videographer as they worked with the couple on-location. At WEVA EXPO 2003 attendees will see the world premier of each Love Story production side-by-side.
The behind-the-scenes “making of” footage from each Love Story will also be screened to allow attendees to see exactly how the shots were created, how the videographers interacted with the couple, and even what the couple had to say about each videographer. At least one Love Story will feature the results of shooting AND editing in 24P (film-style). “Screening the results of wedding work shot AND edited in 24P represents just one example of the exciting, cutting-edge quality of creativity and technical education that has become a hallmark of every WEVA EXPO,” said Ryan. The complete schedule of all EXPO programming is online at www.weva.com.
WEVA EXPO 2003 officially starts at 5:45 pm Monday August 25 at Bally’s Las Vegas with the Opening Night Gala, a free all-convention dinner reception sponsored by Sony. The Gala includes the WEVA 13th Annual Creative Excellence Awards Competition Exhibition, and will be immediately followed by the announcement of the 2003 WEVA Award Winners and the WEVA Special Awards of Recognition, including the WEVA Wedding & Event Videography Hall of Fame inductions. Special pre-convention workshops, including a free 4.5 hour “Afternoon with Apple” program, will be held from 1:00 pm - 5:30 pm at Bally’s on Monday August 25.
To make WEVA EXPO room reservations, contact Bally’s Las Vegas now at 1-800-7BALLYS or 702-739-4111 (rooms are just $80/night single or double occupancy). Early reservations are suggested as rooms are expected to once again sell out before the EXPO opens. A recent Internet search found sample roundtrip airfares to Las Vegas in August from major cities at low-cost prices, including just $238 from New York City and $176 from Chicago. Air Tran recently announced non-stop flights from Atlanta to Las Vegas for $99 one way. Jet Blue has already begun non-stop flights to Las Vegas from New York City. Check Internet airline and travel sites for information on the lowest fares.
