Archos Unveils AV300 Series

Ingy, France - Archos has launched its AV300 series of portable multimedia player/recorder devices, including 20 and 40 GB versions.
Together with one or more of a number of optional modules, the unit acts as a digital video and still camera, memory card reader, voice and music and FM radio tuner.
The AV320 displays color digital photos or MPEG-4 movies on its large, 3.8-inch LCD screen (320X240; 262K colors).
It measures about 4.4 inches by 3.2 inches by 1.2 inches, and weighs 12.5 ounces. It has a 20GB hard drive (40GB also available as the AV340).
Among its features:
Store and view digital photos (JPEG, BMP) and slide shows.
Play up to 40 hours of video (MPEG-4, AVI) at up to 640x360.
Capture photos and video as well as record other video sources in MPEG-4.
Play, store, and record MP3s (30 Kbps to 320 Kbps; CBR and VBR) and WMAs.
Use the device as a USB 2.0 hard drive and store any type of file. No drivers are necessary with Windows XP.
Use the included AV cable to output video and audio onto a television or stereo system.
Use the built-in microphone and AV320 as a voice recorder.
The AV 320 unit is priced at $560; optional modules include AVCam with zoom lens 3.3-megapixel camera ($200); digital video recorder ($60), an FM radio/remote, or a memory card reader.
